New here but have been lurking for a while. My new taco has 450 miles on it and it started to shift down hard when coming to a stop. (Primarily 3rd to 2nd and 2nd to 1st). Naturally I took it down to my dealership to have the fluid checked after seeing all the threads on this issue with the 16s and 17s. Sure enough it was 1.2 quarts low. I just wanted everyone to be aware that this is still an issue on the 18s.

I wonder what percentage of trucks this affects.... most likely a very small percentage. That being said wtf, 3 model years and this is still an issue

My thoughts exactly! I haven’t seen any for the 18s so I figured I would put it out there.

I have the same issue on my 16. About the same amount of fluid was low. Didn’t solve the problem.

And we believe the dealer ?
Usually its " the dealer screwed it up, doesn't know what their doing etc etc etc.
Now we all are to believe they got it right ?

Dealer might have said that just so they 1) got paid 2) gave customer some comfort.
I don't buy that they hook up techstream and spent the time to check it correctly, sorry. Or even did it right for that matter.
He might even be 1.5 quarts too high now !

Blame the Union of American Auto Workers who don't give a rat's ass about what they are building, and just want a paycheck. This shit would not be happening if they were still built by people who cared about self respect, honor, and their work ethic. Call it what you will but these problems were never there until these companies starting assembling them in the U.S. sorry but it's true.

Sad that so many with 2016' and 2017's had this issue and Toyota gave 2 fucks to make sure they corrected it for 2018.

Could you snap a pic of the work order so we can see what they did?

I’d like to know how they checked it as well.

Had mine in for its 5k service the other day and I asked em to check the trans fluid and seems they did the tech stream method and assured me it was good.

At least now I have paperwork showing that they “checked it” and “it’s fine”, so if it blows up then I at least have that. Lol.

Also found out my truck already had the transmission tsb reflash done to it prior to me taking delivery. So the clunky shifting is “just the way the truck is”..

Don’t understand how this continues to occur. The selling dealership should at least check fluid levels prior to delivery of any vehicle. (I realize they shouldn’t have too)
If Toyota, or its dealers, don’t wish to check fluids, put a dipstick back in so owners may do so.

Right, why did they even switch to a sealed unit? How does it benefit anyone.

My dealership actually sends a video and explains what they did. And the tech even said on the video that this has been an ongoing problem.

Saves Manufacturers $ on cost of parts, and weight. But I believe it is to steer maintainace to dealers.
