Participation medals breed false confidence.

When families constantly tell their children that the are the best/special/excellent and whatever other superlative that constantly wipe their asses with these are the results. These kids get to the real world where no one cares and get pissed because they finally realize that they are regular like everyone else.

I tell my son regularly, that there are millions of people trying to get to the top and not one of them care about the efforts of the others. Nothing is fair and to never expect things to be fair. People think I’m a dick for it but I’ll paint no lies over reality for him. Yet he’s still regularly the best mannered and politest kid in his class.

Just saying.... there are 4 kids total, 3 kids in the house less than school age I assume, one of them being 4 and the other at school. I understand running out to the car or speaking with a neighbor for a few.

 

Me too. sorry, I am not one of those people that has a lot of hope or faith in humanity. Feel sorry for the whole situation and really hope for a positive outcome.... but as the hours drag on it looks bleak.

Go to a public school sometime, doesn't matter if it's inner city or rural, you'll see a lot of reasons kids turn out the way they do.

Doctors who "diagnose" self discipline problems as a "special needs", and the parents who let those diagnoses enable their kids. Children whose parent(s) are gone all the time and they're practically raising themselves and their siblings. Divorces/separations and parents acting more immature than 5 year olds. Kids being raised by cousins, grandparents, etc. Parents trying to be "besties" with their kids instead of providing stability and structure. Racism, sexism, social class prejudice, etc. handed down from generation to generation that spreads rapidly among peers through social networking. I could go on and on with the stories I've heard about some of these kids and their backgrounds.

I am not making excuses for this kid's actions, but you're right man, violent behavior usually starts at home.
