I’ve been daily driving a crew cab Super Duty gasser for the last few years. Bought it to pull our Nash travel trailer. With my wife, 3 kids, the dog, and all our camping gear we needed the extra payload. It’s perfect for that and will be keeping it.

I ordered a 2018 OR M/T because daily driving the Super Duty is exhausting. (I know, first world problem). We also do a lot of hiking, trail running, fishing, skiing, and some tent camping. Can’t wait to drive the Tacoma to the trail heads!

Anyone else downsize from a big truck to a Tacoma? Tips, tricks, or mods that I should look for?

Awesome and welcome to TW and good choice with the MT :burnrubber:. I have the DCSB Sport MT and thoroughly enjoy driving the truck daily. There is a ton of good information, advice, and excellent entertainment on this active forum.

I just had a 17 f250 Crew 6.2 4x4 for a month while my 17 tacoma was in the body shop for a deer strike. I tell you now that I am back in my tacoma, I feel like I am driving a Lexus with the difference in ride and drive-ability. You will not regret your purchase.

I drove 3/4 Dodge Ram before buy my 05 DCLB. It’s wasn’t a big deal for me to down size sense I didn’t pull anything no more. Planning on staying with A Tacoma for a while just bought a 17 DCLB

I hope you bought a "long" bed because the standard bed is 5' which you may not be used to if you plan to haul alot of things on your outdoor expeditions.

Yes, good point. I ordered a double cab short bed - couldn’t get a manual trans in the long bed. I’m kicking around the idea of getting a topper with rack. We’ll see how things fit first.

I had a F-250 ex cab long bed diesel before my Tacoma. Haven’t missed it one bit. I always missed my ‘12 Tacoma a few cars before the Ford.
    Welcome!

I downsized from a 2016 Chevy Silverado Duramax crew cab. I miss it but it just wasn’t working for the commute I was doing and parking it was a total pain in the ass when in the city.

Very good decision on the Manual. IMO you cut out the one flaw in this truck. I think you're gonna love it.

my first truck was a 2004 f250 i drove in highschool. You will appreciate the ease in parking the Tacoma in comparison. Or at least I do in crowded SoCal parking lots.

Had an '11 Avalanche. Nice truck but honestly, like my Taco so much better. Just much easier to live with every day and, for me, hits the sweet spot size-wise.

I like Flaws.... My Auto is fine. Yeah it wants to go into overdrive a little more then I think it should but I just put the gas down a little harder and it downshifts. Mind you, I drive up and down mountains going and coming from work. The M/T is fun no doubt, I converted my auto 500hp 02 z28 to a t56 6speed after I blew 2 transmissions. I think the M/T is fun but I also like drinking my coffee and and holding the steering wheel at the same time..

You will be fine with the short bed. You've still got the SD for outings with the family and real truck work stuff. I like the smaller bed for daily driving and maneuvering around the city. I can also fit plenty in the bed. 4 mtn bikes, 12' kayak (with the hitch extension), mulch, etc. I think it's a great size for the size of the truck--especially considering you've got that humongous bed in the SD for actual truck duties.

I didn’t realize the Access Cab could be had with a manual. My local dealer has a black AC OR - if it had a MT I would have seriously considered it! Love the look of the AC ORs. (I’m a big fan of the Marty McFly truck)

Yeah, that’s my thinking too. Are you racking the mountain bikes?

No, I do have a hitch rack, but tail gate cover is SO much easier (and cheaper--my rack just sits now). Got a RaceFace pad for $100.

I downsized from a 2nd gen Dodge 2500 Cummins 4x4 with 37"s. People did not cut me off, nor tailgate me whatsoever. Be prepared to be cut off, and tailgated regularly.
