Bilstein 6112

So I had the NH Oil application to my truck this fall (first winter on my 6112s and 5100s rear). Its basically a much much better fluid film and will stick to everything and will actually creep upwards. So they did a good job coating up the shocks and so far I don't see any rust/corrosion on them. They are kind of black colored from the oil still but to me better then corroding away. I try to wash the truck after every snow storm and everything seems to be holding up ok

 

If you’ve got the 3rd gens on 6/5, would they accommodate 17” ray 10’s wrapped in 285/70 ridge graps? I’m prepared to chop a little.

 

Always be ready to chop a little...or a lot lol. But I'm sure you can make them fit on a 2" lift with some modifications because as you said " your ready to chop"

 

Right on. Trying to decide between grabbing this or doing something more along the lines of an Icon/King set up. I just don’t know if I can justify the $ for what I’d be using them for. I do like the look though. Where in VA you at? I’m in Hampton Roads.

 

I'm in VA Beach. I almost went kings but I couldn't justify getting them...other then being "cool". 6112 does the job just fine for my needs.

 

I'm in the market for these soon. Probably buying from RCA.

Quick question. I'm thinking about going up to the #4 position on mine and throwing in a 3 leaf AAL finally.

In my head, the simplest way to bump these up without completely dissembling everything like I did to install it would be to to put the truck on jack stands @ full droop height, floor jack the LCA up right beside the ball joint, remove the two lower ball joint bolts, remove the bolt at the top of the shock bucket that centers the shock, then lower the jack/LCA until the tension is completely off of the springs.

Do you guys think I'd get enough droop doing this, or would I need to loosen the CAM bolts like I had to do when I installed everything?

 

I've done it more times than I care to share or remember. You MUST loosen the LCA cam bolts if you have OE rubber bushings in the LCA's. If you don't you'll end up fighting the tension in the rubber. Otherwise, your method is fine.

 

Ah, dang it. I kinda figured that. I'll have to get an alignment either way so I guess it doesn't hurt to go ahead and loosen them up, too. Thanks!

 

Welcome. You can mark your cams with a paint pen so you can put them back like they were if you want. I usually do that.

Yep. I'm a regular customer too. First name basis. I usually bring them a box of of bagles or donuts. They all know to do shit right by me because I don't let anything slide when it comes to work on truck.

 

Good advice. I did that during the initial install, and surprisingly the truck handled the ~40 mile trip to the alignment shop just fine. Geometry was WAY off, but it was close enough that it drove and tracked fine.

 

I'm looking @ getting the 6112/5160 for my DCLB with the setting @ the 3rd notch for the front but after reading other posts on here it looks like most of you are running progressive AAL's for the rear but I don't want to run those I was thinking of just going with the single AAL's from toytec: http://toyteclifts.3dcartstores.com/TAC-AL--ToyTec-Rear-add-a-leafs_p_16.html
Is anyone on here running these with the 5160's in the rear? I just wanna know the difference in ride quality compared with the progressive AAL's or is it because they can handle more load capacity?

 

Here's Headstrong's AAL opinion below. I have their 3 leaf and with the TRD versions of 5160 and it seems to ride well in the rear.

 

So seems like he's saying that the progressive AAL's have the best of both worlds

 

I'd say so next to an entire replacement leaf pack. I kept my overload on mine too because I have a cap as well.

 

Ok what do u think of spacer blocks as my 2nd option?

 

If you're mostly on road or mild offroading you'll be fine. Even Headstrong sells block spacers but any towing or heavy loads could cause axle wrap. It's not much more money for a AAL but definitely more work. I just did my install and really focussed on what it takes especially if you keep the overload leaf like I did....
