Aloha Tacoma World people! I bought my first Tacoma 2016 4x4 off road new and I think that Toyota has skimped out on a lot of things. There is no hood struts to counter the weight of the hood and there is no sound proofing material on the hood. I had to purchase the mud guards as an option and it doesn't even say 4x4. I could go on and on but I probably would piss you guys off. I am adjusting to it so I hope some day I will love my little taco. LOL. Something strange happened to my dash light yesterday and became worse today so that is why I am posting. Yesterday we had some thunder showers so it was kind of dark and I noticed that the dash light didn't come on as usual. When I went under an under pass, the dash light would not come on and I had my light selector on Auto. Today, the light in the middle where the mileage and speed window is, went dark with a message saying maintenance required. There was a amber triangular light on so I drove to my local Toyota dealer and spoke to a maintenance guy and he said that it had to be reset because it will come on about every 5k miles or so. I said that I just had it serviced at their shop in Dec of 2017. He said that they probably forgot to reset it so he did it. Everything looks normal now but when I go under an under pass the dash light does not come on like it did before. Anyone had some similar problem to mine? Sorry about the long post introducing myself.

So like no pre purchase examination of these critical areas?

    If no, well............

If yes, you bought it anyway? So are they really worth complaining about? :notsure:

As far as the auto light thing, did you not ask the dealer to address that when you had it in the shop?

Highly recommend spending quality time with your owners manual to learn what things do/don't do, and what adjustments the user can make to various systems. For example, the 5k 'service' light has been around at least 15 years; the only thing that's changed along the way are the reset steps.

Rest assured that if you hang out here long enough you'll find lots of ways to spend your money.

    Welcome.

Thanks for your reply and this is the first vehicle that I bought new since my 1968 Mercury 390 XR7 GT Cougar. I should have checked out the truck thoroughly but failed to do so and now have to live with it. As far as the light thing, it worked when I was at the dealer so I told him that I would monitor it because it was intermittent and will have them check it on my next 5k checkup. As far as the 5k service light being around for 15yrs. doesn't do anything for me since I had a 68' cougar built like a tank.

I am not familiar with this forum and have a question on how to reply to a persons reply. I see a reply section at the end of the postings but how do I know that the reply goes back to that specific person?

    Aloha Guys and Gals,
Today I drove under an overpass and the dash back light came on but it used to come on sooner. I wonder if a sensor timer is bad or if when the tech. reset caused some problems? I timed when the dash back light came on when I was under the over past and it took approx. 15.65 sec. with the light selector switch in the auto position. When I exited the overpass, it went off approx. 13.40 sec. later. Anyone experienced anything like this?

    Mahalo,
    doogdoog
