I like RockyMount products. I'm using their non-track "HotRod" mount with the Saris Traps Triple Track. The "Hotrod" mount supports bikes with 12mm x100mm, 15mm x100mm, and Boost 15mmx110mm thru-axles. I'm able to get two mtn bikes (with Hotrod mounts) and a road/cx into my truck bed. Here is a link to the Hotrod mount: https://rockymounts.com/collections/adaptor-and-truck-mounts/products/hotrod

Finally getting all my rack and tonneau stuff together. Had a similar setup on my superduty, but the towers mounted directly to the bed rails. This time I picked up a Pace Edwards Ultragroove retractable tonneau. T-slots built in to the tonneau. There might be room for 4 bike trays, but it'll probably end up being 3 with a narrow ski box.13733.jpg

I had to get out of Wyoming this February to find some dirt... So a friend and I made the 7 1/2 hour drive down south to Moab UT.
Other than not getting to ride Porcupine rim and the whole enchilada (closed for snow)... most every other trail was open. We enjoyed the Amasa back trails on day one, then we hit Mag 7 on day 2. All 22 miles of Mag 7 might be a bit long but its worth it for the Gold bar rim trail and Portal. Day 3 and 4 were left messing around out at the Bar M trails and Klonzo trails, which are great for a quick out and back. Gotta say, Moab this February was nice... 60* during the day, very few tourists and Jeepers... and we only saw 2 other bikers on Mag 7 all day.

    OK y'all, need some advice.

I have been looking for a fast, XC oriented 29er hardtail or maybe short travel full-squish bike to handle some of the flatter options in Utah. Really lookked hard at the BMC Speedfox, 29 SC highball, Scott FS and Hardtail XC options, etc. Any decent bike comes in around 2Gs.

BUT...I have the opportunity to pick up a 4130 cro-moly steel (is real) Transition Trans-Am that is 27.5" for a killer deal. A lot heavier, and smaller wheels, but I know the reputation the trans-am carries...and its steel :D...

    Thoughts?

I have an unbranded chinese carbon hardtail that makes trails much more interesting again , and there really is a cool fun factor to xc geo on a 29er with skinny ish tires (gotta have short stem wide bars though). Switching everything over to an aluminum honzo just to try out something new right now. But I think the carbon honzo or the highball would be rad. In case your curious about the mystery meat heres the link-
    http://www.xmcarbonspeed.com/Productinfo.asp?f=1296
I picked up their wheels also and ended up being able to build the bike up pretty light and fairly cheap. Used it for Xterra races and stuff like that.
I think you would probably notice a pretty big difference between a steel 650 play bike and a xc style 29er. Just all depends on what you are wanting to do with it.

Yeah, it is apples and oranges for sure. My goal was is to obtain a light and fast carbon XC bike. But I suffer from the "shiny object syndrome" when it comes to bikes and a 4130 hardtail at a good deal is hard to pass up regardless of goals.

I rode the Scott Scale RC 900 Pro for a few years. It could handle pretty much anything from Deer Valley to Moab, but not always the most comfortable ride. Very stiff, very lightweight. Excellent on CC mountain trails. Not so much fun on Gooseberry. I loved it but have moved on to the Scott Genius (full-squish).

Speaking of Gooseberry... I made it down to Hurricane, UT for 4 days of riding. Friday, we did the Margarita/Guacamole/Salt on the Rim loop. Saturday on Gooseberry for South Rim (to the end)/South Rim/Hidden Canyon/North Rim/Bowls & Ledges. Sunday did Bearclaw Poppy (up)/Green Valley/Zen loop/Bearclaw Poppy (down). Did a quick run on the JEM Trail on Monday.
Everything was in great condition and almost perfect weather (except for the wind on Saturday).

This is my new favorite loop. Last time I rode it, I did south rim to hidden canyon to north rim to the point then south rim all the way home.

It was a long one, but fun times. That huge rock roll or two coming back from the point spices it up a bit too.

I personally liked Guacamole a little more. It was shorter so it didn't feel like as much of a long grind on a 160 fork bike, and there were a few different lines you could play around with.

The Scott Spark 920 is the leader currently for me, but BMC has a few options that are appealing.

The new franken bike getting built up. Kona Honzo stripped down with parts from various corners of my garage. If the geometry lives up tot he hype than a dropper post will be installed in quick order!

I've got a 150mm Reverb stealth laying around that you are welcome to for cheap. All it needs is the little metal barb that connects the hose to the remote (common reverb failure)

Okay... for years I have been searching for a nice way to lift the rear wheels of my bikes out of the bed by using the deck rails on both of my Tacos 2nd & 3rd gen. I’ve seen the Yakima bedrock but I can’t tell if they clamp on or are bolted into the deck rails. Which is it and is there anything that does mount into the deck rails that allows for commercial bars to be above the bed?

Why not use one of the @KB Voodoo bed bars that use the OEM rail cleats and then just voile strap the rear wheels to the bar to prevent bouncing around?
