Breaking in on this love fest. How do you guys like your tents in the winter? I'm talking driving wind and snow. I've been considering a RTT for quite some time now, but only to extend my camping into 4 seasons if possible.

Also, anybody using a RTT with a mid-height bed rack? Do you think an annex is useful with that setup?

I can't speak to your first question, but I run a mid-height rack. An annex might be useful, but it'll be somewhat of a crawlspace for you. Unless you're quite short. Or young kids might do ok.

A good punch from inside will send the snow off the roof.

Has anyone tried the iKamper? Thinking of saving up for that one and getting it this fall. I'd have it on a medium height voodoo rack, so it would probably hang over the back a foot or so. I like the speed of set up of a hardshell, with the foldout platform of a softshell.

I have the mid height RCI racks, and an annex. The annex does have a lot of fabric bunched at the ground, but I don't see it as an issue. I do not have a floor to zip into the bottom of the annex. We don't always use the annex, and probably less than half the time that we use the tent. I prefer the mid height racks to reduce drag while driving, and.... I don't know, I just prefer the lower rack. Maybe no good real reason. Only issue I have had with the lower racks is that I cannot use the metal rods to hold open the window over the cab roof.

Very Nice! I've got a similar setup, CBI Offroad Fab Overland bed rack to mount my CVT. I'm looking to upgrade to a bigger tent, so I'm looking for a bed rack that will extend out over the cab to about the midpoint. Anybody have any ideas?

Personally I like the looks and options of this one:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/over-canopy-modular-bed-rack-intrest.483934/

I like that the cab section and the bed section are separated to allow for a bit of articulation, and that the bed section can fit a soft topper and presumably a tonneau cover. Also those flip up cargo access doors would be nice to have. Personally I went with a voodoo mid-height rack, but if I ever wanted to jump to a full-height I'd probably go with this system.

    Yeah.
You can get the left rod in. I put on the OEM roof rack and use a bungie to hold the right side open. Someone else (I think MTgirl) gave me that tip, works great.

How are you liking this setup? I am very seriously considering that exact combo of Brutforce bed cage and and Tepui Kukenam XL. Would you have done anything differently? Thanks!

The last trip with my old tepui. Was about -10 over night-5 that morning. I recommend a good sleeping bag and a good whiskey.

An unusually high amount of pinstriping.
I haven't tried it, but my wife and I looked into them and found that storing the beading in them wasn't really an option. Other than that they looked good. Unfortunately being able to store the beading in it is a big one for us so we crossed it off the list of RTT that we are looking at.

Yeah, we can do that, and for the right one we have a rod that we slightly bent, and added some tubing to the area of the rod that rubs the cab. But we just leave it closed most the time. Two other windows and a big ol door allow plenty of light in.

Question for y’all guys with a hard shell... Those things got enough space to do the wild monkey dance? Cowboy wrangling a calf?

Got a my Shasta now but been thinking of upgrading to a hard shell

Hi how do you guys tie down the over hanging part of your RTT. Last night in the Jones Pass parking lot my tent got some lift from super strong winds.

I have a ratchet set but I’m unsure where I should attack it to. I have a couple of straps with D-rings coming off my Pope Overland tent. I think those may be good points but what do I connect them to? Hitch receiver? Around the rear axle?

I saw one solution on here is to carry a couple 5 gallon buckets and fill them with dirt/rock when it gets windy.

We've tied it off to the bottom rung of the ladder. Either that or stake them out.

MT stuff, RTT stuff, the usual.
My tent has d rings in the corners, I use a strap that’s hooked through the rim on that side. Works well.

I landed a hell of a deal on a Mt Bachelor CVT this weekend. Lady had won it in a raffle and didn't want it, so I got it from her, NIB for dirt cheap. Exact config and color I was looking at on their website for almost half the price after tax and shipping.

Just ordered a set of CBI Overland bars to hold it up. They won't ship till about this time next month, so I will be antsy like a kid at Christmas for a while.

Looking forward to getting it up and tested. I'll post a few pics once I do.
