I have a 2008 taco 2wd. with milage of 178k im not sure what type of oil would be better for the engine to be as smooth as posible. (High milage or full synthetic)?

Keep it simple. Pick a 5w-30 high mileage synthetic oil of your choice. They're all good.

Don't over think this. And get out now before this degrades into a shit storm like all oil threads do.

Que the "my oil can beat up your oil" nonsense in 3....2....1

Keep running whatever got it to 178k.

Assuming by performance you mean freeing up more HP or something like that, there is no measurable 'performance' going to be gained worth the cost of running some magical elixer, regardless of what magazine ads or pyramid distributors say..

If you mean lubrication performance, just run the wt on your oil fill cap, the API rating (or better) that is called for, and change it per the duty cycle shown in your owners manual.

since there is no such thing as full synthetic oil for IC engines (it is marketing) any oil you run is fine

neither oil is any better than the other in todays market, synthetics do not last any longer than dino, the only thing synthetic really has going for it is it runs slightly cooler and has better heat properties, still needs to be changed according to the manual.

don't believe the bullshit about synthetic leaking or burning or the old statement about never mix.....it is all bullshit. the only time a "synthetic" is critical is when the engine has been designed to run on that type of oil....Ferrari, BMW...Yamaha and Suzuki sport bikes.....the bearing shells are made specifically to run with synthetic, other oils cause the bearing to gall and build up crud on the surface the crank rolls on.

I use Mobil 1 (not high mileage or extended life) and a mobile 1 or OEM filter. Same goes for the R1, mobile 1 oil oem filter.

The take away from here should be USE WHAT YOU WANT AND DON'T LISTEN TO ANYONE ELSE!!!! do your own truth search, I guarantee you won't get it here.

I could tell you the truth, but, last time I did I got banned.

Oronite which is owned by Chevron makes the additives for the other oil companies. So regardless of what you are buying it’s all the same or very similar. Only difference being the base stock used.

    NO,
synthetic only has SLIGHTLY better characteristics in these 2 points. so slight it makes very little if any difference at all.

the additives ARE ALL THE SAME, the base is the only real difference.

you actually waste money on synthetic oil the same way you wast it on super u. if the vehicle does not need it to operate, it is a waste of cash.

the only reason I use Mobil 1 is the price, the Mobil 1 I can get cheaper than say Valvoline standard, since the wifes car runs the same oil weight, It makes sense to buy in bulk.

you in Canada.....so it would be High Test? or premium? fuel
I know the British side calls it one thing and here in the US we refer to it as super u, super unleaded, premium, 91, high test, supreme.......
