Is there a reason why you CAN'T do it over again?

No kidding. The LB is cake to park in tight spots. People who complain about this are obviously car people moving into the small truck market. I’m 51yrs. Grew up on the farm when I could reach the clutch on full size trucks I was behind the wheel. I bought a DCLB OR only because we sold all of our livestock and I thought I didnt need a full size truck any longer. Ive been in my 2016 shy of 2 yrs. I really think the Tacoma is a sweet ride but it just cant do real truck stuff. Wife and I bought a 4000# TT last fall. My Taco does ok with it but we are already planning ahead and waiting on the Big 3 to see what is going to happen with the 2500 HD diesel trucks. It will be a welcome home coming. With that said, Id like to get the wife a 4Runner for her daily which would fill the gap for the OR stuff I’m digging with the Tacoma.

Not being able to fit motorcycles in the short bed with the tailgate up really bothered me but so did not having a MT, and I prefer to haul my bikes in a trailer with a wheel choke anyway because getting 400 pound street bikes and even lighter dirt bikes in a truck bed solo is a pain so MT short bed won out. Plus I actually think the Long bed double cabs look a little wonky. If I wanted a massive truck I wouldve just got a tundra lol.

How would i go about doing that without spending much money? Money being the issue.

Unless someone wanted to do a straight across trade

I have a short bed double cab (2016 OR) simply because I bought it used at a good price, however if I were buying new i'd buy the longbed. I'm another one that thinks they look better. I would think the ride would also be better. I have a leer shell on mine and it is useless for me to even think about trying to sleep in it.

Have you actually investigated this with a dealership or are you just hypothesizing that you'll lose a lot of money?

Depending on trade in, how above or underwater you are, you might be able to work yourself into a leftover 17 for little to no extra money depending on options .

Longbed may even have better trade in value due to the limited availability.

You won't know for sure unless you do some investigation.... or just live it.

You know what, now that you mention it, I haven't actually done any research.

Well, thanks to you I have something to do this weekend.

Just a recommendation... why not have the truck you really want and you're just talking about going with a smaller bed.

    Should be doable.

    Good luck!

Well I didn't grow up on a farm or come from a car. But I think the dclb is a pain to park in narrow parking lots. Not impossible but a pain. My last truck was wider but had a way better turn radius. Some reasons I went with the long box were to be able to sleep in it with the tail gait closed. Also that extra foot seems to fit quite a bit more plus my dog. I parked next to a full size dclb truck the other day and my truck was about just one foot shorter.

I got the DCSB because in Canada we can’t get a DCLB off-road, I don’t really use the bed for hauling stuff very often.
But one day I Went to Lowe’s to get some wood for my garage that I was building (12’ high walls)... this was the only time I wished for a longer bed, Or a trailer.
Full disclosure: I was not expecting to be taking 14’ 2x4’s that day, I was going to have it delivered but the father-in-law wanted it for the next morning... haha it was a fun drive.

A 6’ bed would of been nice here as well but it was a short trip at least.

I can honestly say I've never wished my truck was shorter.

SB owner. I'm not really partial to either bed. The LB should have been 6.5 ft though. I'm more concerned with the width and I would like to strangle whomever decided to make it 47" between the wheel wells. I use my truck for work and notice the width issue more than the length.

Yea, Ive noticed that too. Hauling full sheets sucks trying to wiggle them in between the wheel wells.

Plus, when towing our TT the LB will be more stable. Power etc will be the same but the LB will feel way better.

And how are you liking the new LB after having the SB? I've been driving a 1999 King Cab (xtra cab?) I bought new, it is tired. I have a ORDCLB on order with a build date of 2/24! I'm sooo excited, can't wait!
