I shot Marie a PM about the AAL, and you should have seen the response back I got. WOW! So much information and attention to detail. OMG.

I do have a question for you, since you mentioned what the shocks measured at, and that was actually one of her questions, to make sure it would fit/work. Do you know the collapsed length of the rear shocks? She asked for both the extended and collapsed, and I know I saw both in the thread in the 3rd section somewhere, but I looked and looked at work today, and I couldn't find it.

 

I don't see the collapsed, just the extended.

 

Gotcha. Thanks a lot man, really appreciate it! I'm almost sure it'll work, based on what I've seen and read, but Marie asked me to check those numbers, so figured I'd do my due diligence and check. This is the one I'm thinking of going with:

She said that the 3 leaf provides a better ride quality, which goes in line with the whole point of me doing this, to hopefully improve the ride quality over the "crappy" suspension it came with stock.

She gave me a nice comparison between the different styles. Lots of info and lots of numbers. If you want I can post what she wrote, if you want/need it, to help you as well.

 

This was all from a mix, but I did do the leveling etc. I started doing cakes a few years back when I was too cheap to pay someone to make a fancy one for my ex

 

That's the AAL I'll probably go with as well. Allegedly it's the same as the Icon one and I had zero complaints with it on my old truck except that when I removed the overload I had no place to boot the brake line. For now I'm going to leave the overload off so I'm not too raked. Previously I went from the non-TSB springs to the TSB plus the AAP so I gained almost 3" of lift. I don't want to go that high this time.

I'm on the fence about the ECGS bushing. I will wait and see how many people need it. I needed it last time but I'm hoping I don't this time. See what happens between now and then. I had Billy put the bushing in for me and I ended up screwing up the CV seal during reassembly (that's what I get for impersonating a mechanic) and had a leak and ended up paying the dealer to fix it for me.

I have zero concern putting the suspension itself in, as it's pretty straightforward, it's hooking up the puller tool and setting the CV seal that scares me.

 

I've seen a lot of peeps say you don't need the ECGS bushing... maybe it's a 2nd gen thing, maybe not. But seems like the majority have all said no to needing it. I'm glad to hear that you're thinking about the same AAL. Gives me that much more confidence that it's the "right" one for what I am shooting for, so thinking I'll pull the trigger on that any day now and order it. As of right now I'm getting the suspension mid next week, so no rush in getting the AAL. Especially since then I'll be getting together with Drew, so he can put it all on for me, so we'll need to figure out a day to do it. No way in hell I'm doing this by myself... I am not mechanically inclined in the least bit, so if I attempted to do this by myself I'd likely blow up my truck or something crazy like that.

I mean in a perfect world you go Dakars and matching shocks but it's overkill for a truck that's seeing 90% if not more street use.

I've got air tools and torque wrenches so suspension stuff has gotten easier than back in the day when I did my Accord's lowering springs / adjustable struts with hand tools, a wing and a prayer.

The small human is going well. I'd say boring, but in the best way possible. She is such a happy baby, it's unreal. She turns six months next week. Time is flying by.

 

That is awesome. Glad to hear! My youngest turns 2 on sunday. Oldest will be 4 in May. Time definitely flies by.

Any real cheap mechanic knows it’s easier to use the weight of the truck to compress the springs.
