At age 29, I have owned one automatic car. Never again, I’ll only buy manuals until I am physically incapable of pushing a clutch.

i've owned 3 '80's model toyota's with manual, and 3 2nd gen autos, and this 3rd gen manual is by far the best...here are my reasons 1) i can control the length of time i want the truck to stay in gear so i can control the MPG's instead of anticipating the shifts ( which i find annoying). 2) The smoothness of the shifts and the sound of the motor make it worth all the extra work. 3) I find auto's to be boring and put me to sleep. 4) not many people can drive a manual ( efficiently, just because you like to paint doesn't make you a good painter). 5) and last but not least trust me chicks love when a man can multitask and be good at it ( or so i've heard because i have no idea, i'm like hellen keller trying to pass a driving test and trying to speech text while i drive).

also i'm 34, since we're all throwing out ages here

You know this seems to be the general consensus, I'm always on the freeway and though I have a MT, I find myself ALWAYS changing gesrs, reason being passing someone, we all know it's not going to happen in 5th or 6th gear, and obviously traffic scenario's in the afternoon on my way home I'm constantly down shifting and up shifting. So regardless if you have an Auto or a MT the truck likes to be running through gears!

Yeah the only modern full size I can think of with a stick is the RAM2500 right?

That said, with the way pickups have grown our Tacomas are the same size if not bigger than what F150s used to be so "full size" doesn't seem to mean a lot.

The 90's and early 2000's were the last era of teenage tuners. I rarely see teenagers learning about cars and how to build/maintain cars. I rarely see teenagers interested in motor sports either.

There were the muscle car days of the 60s and early 70s. Then everything died off for while. Then Import tuning blew up in the 90's and 2000's, so there was a time in (80s/ early 90s) were interest in tuning waned.

The next generation of teenage tuners, if that ever happens again, will probably be tuning Electric/hybrid cars.

The Tacoma may be one of the last vehicles to be offered with a manual.

I dropped my MT habit years ago. I was well into my old fart days before I ever even owned an auto. Now, I wouldn't give you a nickle for a MT. IMO the ONLY advantage to a MT is theft protection, in all other categories auto FTW. Modern autos get better gas mileage, have higher towing capacity, can be shifted like a MT, make stop and go commutes better, are equally reliable, can accelerate faster, and even semi trucks are going to auto's.

There is a reason that MT's are a dying breed, and that is autos are superior! :stirthepot: :D

There is a TV Commercial that I think is for some insurance and the kid has a flat tire and cannot even figure out if he has a lug wrench.

This is so incredibly true, this snowflake generation don't like taking initiative and responsibility for anything, God forbid they learn how to change a flat tire, much less learn how to change their own oil, or even understand the concept of having oil within their vehicle in the first place, they are too busy recording dumb shit on Snapchat rather focusing what's actually important and will benefit their future. I sound like an old fart and I'm 32, but fuck if you think about it, it's pretty scary, hopefully I'm proven wrong.

Stop and go is everywhere these days.
No clutch for me. On a farm, ok.

    ^this!^

Back when I was a MT fanboi my left leg was stronger than my right. Clutch out, drive 10 feet, clutch in, clutch out, drive 10 feet, clutch in, rinse and repeat for 45 minutes twice a day. Who needs aerobics when you have a MT?

I'm just used to using my truck like a truck. Maxxing it out with payload, towing and combined doesn't bode well with AT's. Lots of people say that the AT is stronger but I disagree.

Can't speak for the Tacoma but GM disagrees. Back in my MT fanboi days the first auto I purchased new was a 1 ton dually pickup. I needed the truck to haul a big ass camper and looking at the specs the auto had a higher load capacity. I choked down my bile and purchased the auto because I needed the capacity. That was also the beginning of my conversion away from being a MT fan. (and that is saying a lot because other than the engine and transmission that truck was a steaming pile of SHIT!)

I love MTs, but for me couldnt pass up a great deal in the color i wanted. The only thing I didnt care for was the AT, but I learned to love it. Although ive never used sport mode so much before than in this Taco. Esp when navigating hills.
Its nice in the horrendous SF Bay area traffic.

Nice thing about the 3rd Gen is the Clutch is not like a Leg Press Machine and the Gearbox is smooth as butter.

6th is just fine for passing on the freeway. The only case requiring a downshift for me is passing on a 2 lane highway.
