Help removing rear shock

    hold the top with channel lock pliers, or on top there is a spot for the hex key

    If you don't care about your old shocks, cut the boot and grab the shaft with vise grips. Then turn the nut with a socket or wrench.

    no, I meant that cutting the boot cover wouldn't really help on the installation of the new shock. I had this same problem when I put mine on.lol

    4.10 gears, sliders, and lots of buttons.
    Some have a female hex on the end of the shaft, others have a "Square" end, so as to be able to grip with a wrench.

    So, instead of the double eye, like on mine. The newer Tacomas have an eye on one end and a threaded shaft on the other, much like a front shock?

    I didn't see a hex key on my stock or Bilstein HD shocks. They had a tab on the shaft to grip with a wrench. Problem was the tab broke off of my stock shocks. Cut one off and did as above for the other side. Didn't care since I was replacing them. As for the Bilstein HD's, the tab didn't break off so there wasn't a problem.
