I hear you Mike! I didn't expect any of them to be Manual. Would you mind saying how much yours was? Does it have any "packages" on it?

TRD off-road, auto, with tech package, rubber mats. $36.5k. I got mine in late November '17, just as the '18s we're coming in. I was considering an 18 but figured I got a better deal on the 17.

Just use the deal to get a local dealer to play ball, unless you feel like a road trip. Internet negotiation and patience will get you the deal you want.

Manual saves you $1700 over automatic. I paid under 32 for mine with no p&t. TRDOR and got them to throw in weathertec mats and tint.

I wouldn’t put too much stock in hoping these new frames are any better....I don’t plan on finding out!

I would recommend fluid film, it’s pretty easy to do yourself and relatively cheap. There are plenty of threads on it and similar stuff, just search rustproofing. Depending on how far north you live, you can find a shop to professionally apply fluid film, krown, and other brands of rustproofing.

Also, if your first gen isn’t totally rotten, you might could extend it’s life too.

Fluid film sounds like a fantastic idea. Hope there are youtube videos on doing it. I'm going to take the new truck to a highly recommended detailer right off the bat to have the whole shebang done on it. I'll ask them too if they can spray the undercarriage with fluid film. then after the new truck? I'll ask them what might be done for the 2002 to bring it towards salable.

thanks so much for the ideas.

The new truck will be coming off a ship. I was just thinking to rinse it off really well right there and then at the boat ramp near by.

I think mine will end up being in that ball park as well with tax and fees .... OTD. plus 450 shipping form Honolulu to Big Island.... and then... total detailing with protective coats everywhere. It will be a TRD Off Road Mag Gray P & T packages. 2017 double cab, 4x4, short bed.

Really need to find a portable carport slash pole supported canopy that won't blow away in a wind storm.

and a cover soft whole body cover that fits really well.

and then a tonneau cover/with rack.

And.... then....well, it will be exposed to a lot of salt air and mist and ROUGH lava and SUN and RAIN... but never snow or hail or even cold to speak of. If my 2002 is any sign of what is to come, RUST RUST RUST.

So, I'll start off PRISTINE and .... that won't last. I'm not that guy.
