Working on the 07 today rear brakes

F f f f f f on those lug nuts had to heat the f out of every one and use a cheater bar to get them off. This is due to the rust on the shoulder of the nut. What a STUPID design Toyota. Drivers side brakes 100 pictures just for reference if anyone else need to k ow how it all goes back together, or me in two weeks

I use needle nose vice grips for the hold down spring cups. Clamp them on press in slight twist and magic they are off. I do this with the news ones to put them back on. I was shocked that everyone does not do this

And I am sorry for calling your design stupid Toyota

The toy dealer said I needed a new hand brake cable as this one was seized and broken. I took the hand brake cable off the arm and pushed on the hand brake it moves but not that much. Must need a adjustment took the trim around the gear shifter off just pops out to show the adjuster. Took the cable out and poked it back through the floor of the cab and moved it freely. Further inspection down on the business end showed it was sized in the aluminum bracket on the backing plate and was snapped off. I did find $0.05 cad under the console worth $0.02 USA 6E933A85-8A50-4D04-9A79-51D2405A2FF8.jpg7CDE7A94-ADDD-4B30-861E-946449454313.jpg04D7CBA9-98E5-45C6-B05E-B15F981B9BCF.jpgBA9A4495-3CE7-4858-9FA2-BC2D04DCB652.jpg

In preparation for a real MVI (not like the one Toyota did) and for piece of mind I need to address a list of items that include.

    Abs light
    Hand brake light
    Quality of brakes

I decided that I was going to go through the brakes to make sure they were working properly. As you have seen the wheels probably have not been off this truck for a long time. I have bought all new rear brakes shoes, drums, hardware kit, wheel cylinders, and side axel seals.

If you looked at the pictures you have seen that the brakes were a mess.

Off with the shoes, the hand brake hold down to the backing plate was broken. This was one of the major things wrong with the hand brake. This was a part I did not purchase.

I took the leap while I had the brakes shoes off and decided to removed the side axel as I knew one was leaking so I want to replace the two of them

To do this I needed to remove the hard line from the wheel cylinder and disconnect the abs sensor.

The old hard brake lines were original and ran along the axel to the flex line these were not replaced during the frame rebuild.

I heated up the line nut and got it free but it was not turning on the line so I Made short work of twisting the line off. Ok no problem took the line nut with about two inches of line and squat the line to put in the flex line so it would stop dripping. First picture

Freed up the line nut (opposite end) and it would not come out of the flex line. Ffs

So out come the vice grips

Never seen anything like this before

It’s just to show how free the line nut is but won’t back off, must be stripped

This is one of those things i spent two hours on and the part should be like 20 $ and I am going to replace the flex lines anyways

Changing my opinion on the Hiliti impact gun. I will not be buying anymore of those after today’s performance. Will take your advice and Milwaukee brand, don’t they also make beer ? So it got to be good !
