Hi-Lift Jack bed mount. I vacuumed the interior once.
Hey fellas. Long time listener first time caller. I didn't know where to post this question, so I figured I would put it here.
Okay...I have this Plano storage box to store my gear in the bed of my Taco. I'm struggling trying to figure out how to mount/secure it so that 1.) An a$$hat doesn't steal it, and 2.) It can be mounted in such a way that I can quickly and easily remove it if I need the space.
Bungees and ratchet straps are great for keeping it still, but I need that mofo locked in. I'm certainly not opposed to drilling into the bed, and I've considered drilling some kind of anchor into the box itself to attach to a bed anchor for easy removal. I'm just "stuck" though. Any advice/experience would be appreciated. Love the website by the way. I recently used the info here to mount my hi-lift jack to my rails.

I'm kind of in the same situation but I think I'm going to get a prinsu roof rack and mount my (lower profile) pelican case on that. When I'm camping with my family, I need as much bed space as possible .

Like the above said, I have a prinsu roof rack on the way with a low profile plan gun case to store my recovery equipment.

I also have a Plano box like yours and what I did was use a cargo bar so it doesn’t slide anywhere and have a MX4 bakflip tonneau cover. 243D004F-45CD-48B1-85AC-FE25574F659C.jpg

I use a set of lockable http://eo2fastener.com/ to secure a pair of smaller pelican cases in the bed. they snap onto the hard mounted base rail, then lock with a keyed plunger.

The case latches face the tailgate, so locking the tailgate prevents opening the bottom cases. I used smaller cases so they are lighter when loaded.

Later I added another layer of rails to stack a cooler and a smaller orange case on top of the black cases. The cooler thrashes the contents, but they all stay on the truck. Easy to pop everything out to haul dirt bikes.

I would install d rings in bed lay flat when not in use to old your box down with ratchet straps. For theft you can lock the through them handles with a cable lock or bike lock...

in my prerunner figured out where I wanted things to go and set up tie downs accordingly.

Cool set up. Mount the cooler behind the cab...you will end up with less exploded items.

Remove the front two bed bolts, measure/drill the box, remount the bed bolts through the box.

That may be 'too fixed' for you. But it's about as snatch proof as you'll get.

10 minute removal if you have a battery drill with the right torx.

Thanks for the advice. I have D-rings installed in the bed, and I've thought about using cable locks to secure the box. Here's where I get hung up though...I'll need to install something on/in the box itself to use as an anchor point to attach the cable lock to the d-rings. Does that make sense? And because plastic is thin, I'll need to use something that can't be pulled out. I'll probably go with some U-bolts like these. They would be bolted on the inside of the box, and there's that nice metal bracket that will keep it from being pulled out. Thoughts?

    Something like would work

What about couple of locks on the lid locks. if you got longer locks you could also fix a cable lock in there.

I was just looking at getting some aircraft style tie down tracks for the bed of my doublecab, like these:

    http://www.uscargocontrol.com/Ancho...NEnzsRKUZRYDv-70ebl7U2NjACNt3ETEaAuqWEALw_wcB

Then I realized I could buy about 40 stainless D rings and bolt them to the bed for about the same price, lol.

As for the boxes. Plastic is, well plastic, and not all that secure. Unfortunately I haven't found a steel or aluminum box that fits the way I'd like it to fit in the bed, at least for my best gen (flush with bed rail, and cutouts for the fenders). But even with steel boxes, I know people who have had those broken into.

I don't keep stuff permanently mounted in my bed for that reason. When the truck sits at home for a while, my box(es) go in the garage. When I'm out with it, the only real time it would sit alone is when I'm at a grocery store stocking up on beer and sundries for a trip.
