So, I've got 4 IPF 968 halogen 55/100W lights to anyone who can set some time aside for me one weekend soon to help me figure out a wiring issue with my rigid fogs. Plus beer.

 

Whats the issue?

 

The rigids only light up with the headlights off. They used to work anytime and randomly..this. I have a feel it's a relay issue but there's some shit going on I'm confused about.



If I'm matching it up right, this wire seems to go nowhere. I didn't wire the lights but they all worked off their switch just fine at one point.

 

These fogs are supposed to work independently from your stock fogs?

 

Yeah, they're on their own switch. AFAIK they aren't wired into anything other than the battery. I can do most maintenance and wiring of stuff myself but diagnosis isn't my strong point. Want to get these working before fishing season starts back up..

 

Who installed them? Was it a friend or you bought the truck with them already installed?

Correct. It was a place near where I used to work in Bensalem. They do aftermarket stuff for dealerships. I'd take it back but I don't want to drive to Bensalem and I'd rather learn how to fix it myself.

If they have their own relay and they are wired directly from battery, what is it that im lookin at at the fuse box...?

 

If I had any clue what we were looking at, I'd be able to fix it.

It's taped up life a MF. That's why I'm afraid to un do it. My "ARB" lights are working fine and didn't want to mess those up.

 

Im with you... with its own harness (fuse and harness) its own switch and powered by the battery there is no way this should be happening.... my guess is they are piggy backing off of the headlights' relay..... I would start with checking/replacing the headlight relay (since it worked before just fine at some point with current set up) OR rewire the harness giving them their own relay.

 

@diabetiktaco Relays do weird things I found out.. like when I couldn’t shut my ditch lights off. One prong was corroded, swapped out and bingo bango it worked perfect again. Like @V5ioV said check the relays.

 

This. And, when you put them back together, put dielectric grease in there.

 

Frustrating as hell. You can hear the relay click on and off and the lights work each time. Turn the headlights off and nothing. I’m going to swap the relay for shits and giggles but it doesn’t look to be wired into the headlights at all.
