But considering I know able-bodied women in their 20s who don't drive at all, I'd say Laura's a pretty amazing woman...

    @Plain Jane Taco

    Oh, and Bill...?

You wouldn't happen to have any pictures of the Tappan heat pump that got replaced, would you? I'd be curious to see what that unit looks like...

We do ignore the meltdowns when we can but a lot of the time it’s when we’ve got to be somewhere by a certain time and even after anticipating him giving trouble and starting out early that it gets difficult. Or when trying to get him to bed by a decent time.

Yes....our 1st house in 1994 had gas heat. Next 2 houses were all electric.

Here's a pic of my next door neighbor's heat pumps. 12+ year old Tappan units. 2 ton on the left, 1.5 ton on the right.

I had two 1.5 ton units. They looked exactly like 1.5 you see in the pic

Yup, that's a NORDYNE product alright...

They seem to be holding up quite well, though why don't they have them on risers?

Also, you probably noticed that the fan grates are pretty rusted on your neighbor's units...

I guarantee you won't find a similar Tappan/NORDYNE straight-cool unit with that much rust...

When heat pumps have a lot of ice/frost built up on the coils, they defrost and produce a lot of steam!

I often use the countdown method with my kids. (both are aspies, btw) I'll interrupt what they are doing to give them a 15 minute warning that we are going to do whater. Then a 5 minute warning, etc. Sometimes that can cause some additional stress, but has been pretty effective for me. ymmv

    You said you're an aspie...

If I have kids, is there any chance of them not being aspies?

Yes...they go into defrost mode quite a lot.

When I Googled "12 year old Tappan heat pumps" I saw a Westinghouse unit that is a carbon copy of my old Tappan units. Must be in the same Nordyne family.

The fact that you know all this is interesting. Have you ever been caught rubbing one out on someone's HVAC unit? o_O

Nope, only filming and/or photographing them...

    :anonymous:

Why do you think I'm going into HVAC for a career?

FYI, HVAC isn't my only "thing"...

I can also quote you the specific horsepower figures for every Chevy truck made from about 1987 until the late 1990s!
