I use 87 grade Chevron, Shell or Texaco fairly religiously.

    Mostly stuff I built.
I use Shell 93 unless I am near a Sunoco or VP station.

I usually fill up at either Mobil or Sunoco stations, based mostly on proximity to where I live and drive. Though I think for a majority of gas stations, it's basically all the same stuff. I've seen tanker trucks with the same branding filling up the tanks at a variety of different stations.

Only top tier gas has extra detergent (an added cost) above what detergent is federally mandated for any refinery's gas. Toyota recommends it but use whatever you please. It is your truck.

Never really thought about it. I use the closest station to me at the time I need a refill.

I do try to avoid Canadian Tire gas bars though if I can because in my old Accord the check engine light would come on after I fuelled up at Canadian Tire and went away when I filled up with so.e other station.

    Vehicle:
    2017 Tacoma OR 4x4 (formerly 2002 OR 4x4, 1995 4x4 4Runner, 1985 4x4 Toy PU) ... and RIP’s (rust in pieces) to a Bronco II 4x4 & S10 Blazer 4x4
Whatever brand the next service in 100 miles is serving! In this case, Roy’s on Route 66, Amboy, CA in the Mojave Desert. And your fuel choices at places like this are usually only two- diesel or gasoline.

I havent worried much about it at home either- usually Arco or Seven11 - the cheapest. My 1st gen never had issues with the gas assortment it had over 370k miles, including an international smorGASbord of Mexican and Canadian gas as well. Ill treat this truck the same way and guess it will be an “I will see” experience as on roadtrips you usually have to take whatever they offer.

I use chevron mostly but here on the central coast of California it’s hard not going to costco to save some cents per gallon.

When I was a Tech at Porsche if we had any fuel issues it was always with the Costco gas. We would tell customers to not use Costco even though it is a “top tier”.

Worked for a fuel company. As much as you may think, there really isn't much difference in where you get fuel. 3+ years, the only thing that changes much is if you choose ethanol or non ethanol. Phillips, 7/11, Sam's, Costco, Walmart, BP. It's all the same unless you choose to put additives in at pump.

are you saying that top tier fuel is made at the pump by adding additives ?
I edited this from original to be more clear .

The same 87e10 (ethanol) that you buy at a BP is going to be the same 87e10 you buy at a P66 or a Shell or wherever. The only difference usually changes if you personally select additive at the pump. Now yes, it does change from a 93e10 to an 87e10 because of a higher Octane but store pump to store pump there is no Tier.

I edited my post while you wrote this.
I have only seen one gas station ever , where I could choose to add an additive at the pump and that was a Walmart Murphy . So are you saying all gas stations are at a minimum of a top tier gas if they have no choice of an additive ?

I haven't traveled all over the country to look at dispensers of every gas station (Pumps) but I do know the vendors and the people that make the fuel pumps for 95% of the country and several do have a choice of putting in a fuel additive. What I am saying is in comparison to an apples to apples (87e10 from one store to another store with 87e10) there is no top tier fuel. I have bought it, priced it, negotiated it there really isn't. Every C-Store buys their fuel from the same refineries and owners. Now yeah performance difference from Non-Ethanol gas to Ethanol gas sure. But it could be marginal. Is that extra 1mpg worth the $0.40 difference?

Shell 87 octane. Exxon or BP if Shell is unavailable.

Is there an internal pump or underground pump device that adds an additive to make a top tier fuel at different brand top tier named stations . I have in the last year driven from Texas to New York to Wisconsin to Arkansas and again , have only see 1 station , a walmart Murphy Station where I had a choice to pay for additives for the fuel .The Murphy I speak of is where I live . I do not use them because I buy top tier fuel and Murphy is not a top tier fuel . How can some fuel station brand names qualify to be top tier and others not if they all have the same fuel ? Is it a matter of paying extortion to the EPA or ( http://www.toptiergas.com/) in order to be labeled top tier ? Sorry to keep pressing , and I do believe you because I have heard this from other people , but it makes no sense .
