PTR13-35150 - Bilstein TRD PRO kit - Upgrade??

I wouldn't think these lifts would cause any dramatic increase in bearing wear due to the relatively low lift and angles associated. I thought about doing the ECGS but figured I would wait and see if I had a problem first.

 

I'd like to hear some reports with that setup too.

 

I feel slightly better knowing I'm putting a Toyota suspension on a Toyota truck but still, you never know.

 

Yeah same, I'd at least be more confident taking it to the dealer if I suddenly have major vibes shortly after installation.

The lift was supposed to be minor with this kit, but some are reporting 2" up front which is definitely in ECGS replacement territory. I don't know what I'll do yet. My set should arrive this week, but it'll be a few months before I get to installing.

 

FYI, my bearing issue popped up with the installation of a leveling kit. Then I went back and added the ECGS. Personally I would plan for the Ecgs at the time of suspension installation if you don't already have it . You will save yourself some labor

 

0... it is a Toyota product. It is a Toyota suspension being taken from the PRO. The PRO is not special so how many bearing failures happen on the pro?

 

Hmmm no. It happens to stock trucks. Toyota product or not for lifting, The needle bearing is a flawed design...

However people can go 70k with no prob and others 1 mile down the road and have the problem.

That is true, the engine could also grenade in 2 miles and things like that. Saying that the lift from Pro shocks is going to cause bearing failure makes no sense. The PRO does not have anything different besides the suspension. So that would mean that the PRO would have a crazy amount of bearing failures. If this is the case then yeah bearing failure is going to happen. If it is not the case then it will be fine on the 99.99 percent of vehicles. We are talking about upgrading from a part that comes from the factory that is not known to cause any issues.

 

Installing any lift period is known to potentially cause bearing issues on any Tacoma built in the last 20 years. I'm confused on why this is even discussed.

Because it is stock that is why I am confused. It is a stock suspension and nothing special was put into the pro.

 

And? You don't think some of them had noisy bearings?

 

Toyota already knows the needle bearing is an issue as there is a TSB on it but doesn't exactly fix the issue with the replacement. It just a band aid fix.

The needle bearing is the same one used from the 1st gen to the current model and has been a known issue.

You can believe what you want but for those reading. Just be aware of the things that can happen if you lift with a spacer, a "TRD PRO" lift, aftermarket etc.

Otherwise enjoy your lift! I have the 6112/5160. I did the ECGS fix before I lifted because I don't want the vibes if it did ever happen to me. PIECE OF MIND!

Costs 150 for the ECGS shop for labor/parts to install

 

Keep in mind that they only made like 1200 pro's with this setup. You don't hear much about bearing issues on the pro because they didn't make many. Now look at all the other Tacoma's that have had bearing issues after lifting. It's millions of Tacoma's. That's why there is a known issue with the setup.
It's a known crapshoot.

 

I'll clear things up...picture below is the stock needle bearing also known as a Piece of *hit. Those Teeth or needles tend to break over time or immediatley after any lift or even stock.
