Only reason I haven’t done it yet is they used electrical tape and wrapped the wires tight. Then heat shrunk the relays together. It’s going to be a bitch to un do. Project for next weekend I guess.

 

Sounds like they tied the lights into the headlights. Check your 12v in to the lights. If no power with headlights off, but power when headlights are on, that will confirm it. Or they could have been really tricky and have the grounds from the relay tied into the headlight switch. All our factory switches interrupt the ground and not the power lead

 

So wait, headlights OFF - Rigids ON? Or OFF?

Also check ground wire from the Rigids, it's possible that they wired them to headlight's ground, and now (years later) some connections could have corroded giving you that issue.

Headlights off rigid on. I turn on the headlights and relay (rigid) clicks off. It must be a corrosion issue like you all said because it used to work fine.

 

Yeah, very much so a possibility. But I was thinking about something else - ground directly to lights. Not the case here. But yeah, you'd have to trace and check connections for the relay.... where they pulled power and ground for it (86 and 85).

 

Try to eliminate what are you losing, ground or switched hot (remote). Because chances are that it isn't main battery power.
Unplug relay, and stick tester lead into the socket for "remote" (86) and ground to the other end of tester lead. Test lights. If that's not it, stick tester lead to ground socket, the other end to battery positive. Test lights. If that's not it, I give up.

I was just trying to say, as long as you have the relays apart, you might as well put dielectric grease in there.

I’m sure you know that though
