Always nice having the toys. I wish I had one of those ATV's. My brother in law has 2 Yamaha Grizzly's and those things are so much fun.

Be warned with aftermarket exhaust, they can mess up the way the sensors and ECM communicate, which can often lead to an expensive task getting the engine to run efficiently... Im neck deep in that swamp myself right now and don't wish it on anyone.. Stay away from headers, especially with a 2015.

eh, it hurts my pride to admit, but I bought it with aftermarket headers, and was told the check engine light was just something that I'd have to deal with (i got a really good deal on it...) as long as I kept an eye out for any other codes.. More I learn, however, the more I realize how much damage I've probably done.. mpg is the big one, running around with open loop(super rich air fuel ratio, safeguard programed into the computer), Im suprised my cats are still breathing.. I may have solved it with a couple hundred bucks, but I still feel stupid..

    truth, hindsight is 20/20
if my crystal ball had been working back then I would have gone straight for the D4D swap.. Maybe, still haven't met a diesel conversion in person..

I just want to see toyota power this truck with a modern efficient power train. In all reality the third gens are not all that much more efficient than my 4.0L and are not any better towing either.

I’d love a small diesel like chevys 2.8 duramax. Or a modern turbo charged and direct injected gas job like fords ecoboosts. Hell I’d even like to see a hybrid of sorts again like ford is doing with the F150 and GMC done in the past.

Toyota really is falling behind and it is a shame because they really do make a phenomenal truck that’s PERFECT in every other way.

But like I said my trucks been problem free it’s paid for and I don’t see replacing it for a few years so hopefully toyota wakes up before it’s time for me to replace my truck.

    I have owned 8 trucks so far. 1977 Dodge Tradsman 200, 1994 F250 Diesel, 1996 Ford Ranger 3.0 4x4, 1999 Ford ranger 3.0, 2008 Ford ranger 3.0, 2011Ford F150 ecoboost, 2012 Toyota Tacoma 4cyl 4x4 5spd, 2015 Toyota Tacoma 4.0l 4x4 Auto.

Of all those trucks only the 1977 was worse on fuel. Though to be fair the rangers were close and far worse at towing but then again the rangers were FAR FAR less expensive too and had available a comparable engine in there 4.0l and weighed far less as well.

I wouldn't be surprised if in the next 5-8 years we see a hybrid taco.

But you will not see a diesel here. I don't know what type of lobbying GM is doing because they are the only ones not being bothered by all that emission shit. My uncle had the eco diesel and got letters from the government that the Fiat diesel engine in it was under investigation for the same shit as VW was.

Somehow GM has never been bothered though with their diesels.

that ecoboost for ford has a lot of issues

Really its not so much engine that's the issue for trucks, its just the very nature of it, its a truck. It has no aerodynamics to it. It may as well be a wall driving around. The amount of drag is what kills trucks MPG. Hence why you see mid size having the same MPG as fullsize whether it be the 4cyl or 6cyl. Only way it will really change drastically like we all want will be with a hybrid.

My RAM hemi is getting better mileage than my wife's AWD Escape with the 2.0. I asked the dealer why, and he told me it's a 'winter thing'.

    Think UPS truck.

I thought that too as to why Toyota hasn't released a diesel here to this day. The Hilux in pretty much every European country comes with only diesel and we all know their standards are way higher than us on this side. I do agree Joe, the big three have some sort of lobbying going on. They probably don't have to go far since government usually has an allegiance to automakers here. Sucks knowing it will never happen.

GM in general is so tight with the government. Given the US govt bailed them out, and chrysler sold to Fiat.
Ford is the only one that didn't sell or get bailed which I do have a big more respect for them because of that.

But really all three are still so tight its bullshit. I'm surprised there was never any investigation to the Chevy Cruze TDI.
As much as we all want diesel its not the future.

India and china have already annoucced they plan to go all electric by 2025.
Volvo has already announced every vehicle will be fully electric or hybrid electric by 2020
Why would Toyota's big change be diesel brought to the market when the money they would spend bringing a diesel to our market would go further in hybrid tech?

Aside from the glitchiness a hybrid can have why wouldn't it be wanted? You get better efficiency, less pollution so it looks good to EPA and power wise you're talking 100% torque instantly on an electric motor.

Figure a freight train has way more moving power than a tractor trailer, its proof electric motors have the best power. Look at cranes, streetcars and elevators too. DC Motors are in a field of their own for load moving and speed control.

A diesel hybrid would be optimum really. But that’s very hopeful thinking.

Ford has committed to a hybrid F150 that I’m very excited to see and hoping they shuffle that tech to the up coming ranger.

I just annoyed at the 13-16mpg my trucks averaging in winter. when the 2011 f150 I owned managed 16-20 in same use despite also being a brick (bigger brick but brick non less).

In summer truck does better but then again in summer I rarely drive it unless towing.

Test drive MT, it's a night and day, I also thought that the 3.5 little minivan engine is gutless before I started picking gears for it.:deadhorse:
At 4000rpms you put it in 1st, expect to get concussion, that thing launches like a rocket, now I need a helmet.:bananadead:

I get 12L/100kms in the city of Toronto with a stop and go traffic on a winter gas right now, definitely more efficient compare to 14-15L on my 2015 and 15L on the 17 4runner. Interior is also a big step in the right direction, it's on pair with my 4Runner now.

About diesel, let's just say I heard from a guy who knows a girl, who knows another guy from Toyota that there is something interesting coming in the Tundra market, which could put the big 3 way behind in technology and make us all happy in the next Tundra refresh. :gossip:
