Good to know Blaney is the golden child now. He can do no wrong.

A few additions to make me feel cool.
The difference is this simple. The 12 had a dominant car that was put in a bad situation and had to make a risky move and RB earned the right to take that chance. The 3 had a shit car and took a cheap shot at a better car because he lacked the skill and equipment to overcome his situation.

It has nothing to do with being a golden child but a driver who is in it week in and out deserves to make certin moves in the 500 that bottom feeders who luck themselves into situations do not deserve. The difference is a competitive skilled driver and one who is not. Not to mention the 12 had the 32 up his ass so he didn't exactly have an option.

To top it all off the 3 then conducted himself as an ass and pretended he deserved the win instead of admitting he didn't have a good car and pulled a cheap shot to win. He should have just owned it and said hey it's the 500. That's the only way I could win it so I did what i did. That's racing. Like the fuel mileage win AD likes to celabrate. Classless POS!

Wait. You're on a Toyota forum here. You can't like Kurt Busch.

For the sake of marketing (and NASCAR is All.About.Marketing. That's essentially all it is at this point), they NEED a Danica Patrick. She never claimed to be the best female driver. She was certainly the most marketable driver, and that's what all the sponsors and smart owners want these days. She was simply a commodity and she had good business people pitch her as such. Same goes for Janet Guthrie in her era. Julia Landauer is next in line as the savvy, whip-smart gal who can wheel a race car better than anybody on this forum.

Let's get technical on track moves and their names:

A driver side hit is a bump or a dump.
A passenger side hit is a hook, more commonly referred to as "the Widow's Hook," because it has killed so many drivers over the years. This appears to be the move Dillon did to Almirola. It's also referred to as "the dirtiest move in racing" according to Robert Yates.

I thought you were an Almirola fan through & through? Was it not it you who once went on and one about how spoiled the Dillon boys are?

I've had it for 2 weeks. It needs help.
First off, I have to own this right off the bat. I LOATHE Austin Dillon. Period. I got SO heated post-race on Twitter, that my account got suspended for 23 hrs and 59 minutes for abusive behavior and language.... So, taking THAT into consideration here, I DEEPLY felt that move for the win was a pu$$Y move, by a silver spoon-fed, quarter-talented hack. I think what really sent my pressure up was how the Fox booth never once acknowledged the dump, but fell straight into what sounded like rehearsed rhetoric about the historic #3 car back in VL 20 years after DE's win. There was ZERO acknowledgement of the dump. ANY car other than the 3 pulls that crap, and Fox' broadcast booth is on it like flies on $hit. Can you IMAGINE if the 18 car had done that?
And the level of joy from all of the Dale Sr. fans really set me off. Austin Dillon put Almirola in the wall at 195-200 MPH PURPOSELY. Did ANY of those Sr fans recall the wreck that took his life? Think about it. VERY DANGEROUS move. But....nobody seemed to care because it was the 3 and it must have been divine intervention that led the car to the win.....
The 12 car was the car to beat and I felt horrible for him. I WANT to feel bad for Kurt Busch, but I can't seem to get passed him drinking beer naked on the couch in front of his step son. Sorry.
Lastly, yesterday was my first 500 without a driver. I was a FANATIC and RABID Dale Jr. fan, and an almost as fanatic Tony Stewart lover as well. And the level of excitement I had throughout the entire race yesterday shocked me. I was literally pacing and yelling at the TV the entire time. I still don't have "a driver" per se, but the 43 grew on me. A Lot.

So, I guess it's high time I tell my 82 year old daddy that Bubba is NOT Rusty's son. (I told him that last year, never told him otherwise). ;)

Exactly. ANNNDDDDD.... Austin trying to justify/sugarcoat his win with mentioning Dale Sr. UGH!! PLEASE excuse the crassness, BUT (I get HEATED about NASCAR and college football)..... HOW MUCH LONGER is NASCAR and Richard Childress Racing going to continue to pump Dale Earnhardt's corpse for publicity, cheers, and an attempt to gain respect? It's gotten ridiculous.

As far as TALENTED female drivers go in racing, what about Ashley Force?? I know it is drag racing but, she wins alot of them, I think??

Danica was all about marketing, and I got sick of hearing about her, period. I am old! I remember races in the 70's when it was actually 'stock cars' going around the track. Way too much emphasis on her, regardless of where she was running.

Today, and for the past who knows how many years, there is NO Ford, Chevy or Toyota cars........just a 'template' of a custom body with custom every other part on it. If it wasn't for sponsorship $$$, turn it into IROC racing where everyone has the same set up and the driver and pit crews more or less determine the winner, NOT the car brand.

By the way, is there no longer any IROC races??? Can't remember any in recent years.

Blaney DID apologize during his post race interview - I don't think he actually hit Busch, but definitely took the air of his car's rear end, which caused the wreck.

Did Dillon apologize for his wreck??

IROC went belly up at least a decade ago. I enjoyed seeing drivers from different leagues battling each other. There are some classic races in the 70s and 80s available on youtube. I always wished they would visit some road courses rather than just speedways all the time. It's tough to beat the Cup guys when half the IROC field is Cup guys and you're racing on their turf.

Gee, I wonder if, NASCAR used the IROC series as marketing to "prove" their drivers were the best drivers in America, and once NASCAR was the top rated motorsport, they killed the series? Was IROC simply really expensive propaganda?

No IROC any longer. Not sure what the "official" reason was, but I always thought it was just NASCAR baiting IRL/CART/F1 drivers on their turf. I mean, the premise being the world's best drivers in "equal" equipment on oval tracks. But, everyone knows those series' drive road courses more than ovals. so...... great marketing scheme.

Bud you really need to relax and look at the difference in dumping someone and hard plate racing. You are just really bent that the 12 dumped the 41. If anything the 41 made the bone headed move to block the 12 with such a strong run, the 12 simply had no choice in the matter with the 32 glued to his bumper. All I was pointing out is that some drivers dump people not as part of racing hard but intentionally like in the videos. The 3 took a cheap shot but the rest of them were pretty much just hard racing, loose cars or lack of experience. The only person that made a choice to flat out put someone in the wall yesterday was the 3 and that is why everyone here has the stance we do. You have the right to your opinion but I have been following this sport for a long time and I just don't see it.
