$39,000 for a Tacoma!

Well I think i'm about to spend $39,000 on a new TRD Sport, double cab. I've been floating around this and other Tacoma sites for a while, thanks for the info.

I'm a Canadain looking to purchase a Tacoma, and with the CDN dollor taking it's most recent dive south, looks like I might as well purchase here!

I also started looking into used, but they hold there value so well, that I rather buy new.

All I can say is I ENVY the Americans who can get a new 2009 Tacoma for under 30 G's!!!

I might envy what you can buy a truck for, but it sure isn't enough to make me what to move there!

 

I paid about $41, all in, including tax.

I have not seen Toyota advertise a 'deal' on Tacos since April, so it doesn't look like they are having trouble selling them.

Also, in the US they sell low end vehicles which aren't sold in the snowy north, I believe. That makes the cheapest ones seem real cheap. They do pay less, though.

I just talked to a guy from Canada the other day and he said he gets his vehicles in Seattle then brings them back, pays the tax, gets them inspected, and is good to go. Saves him about $10K. Why wouldn't you do that?

Thats what I did for my STI. Bought it for 29k last year in Socal. I would of paid 40k in Canada. It was less then 29k since our dollar was more then the US at the time.

 

I just got mine (a 09 DC LB TRD sport 4X4 with JBL) for 30US. It came to 32,200 CND with the dollar at 94 (same as it is now) With taxes and inspection ect I saved about 5.5 Grand. It took me about 20min at the boarder and then 1 hour at Canadian Tire for the inspection.

I did look into importing, superficially. I figured I could save a few thousand, but then there was my time (I am a *very* busy guy) and potential warranty issues, and, not a big deal, but sometimes vehicles in the US can have some different parts than in Canada, which could be an issue down the road. For $10K I might have looked further, but I stopped there.

 

Warranty is good all over north America, and ALL THE PARTS ARE THE SAME. If a Toyota dealer tells you differently then ask them which parts (it is a scam).

 

I brought a 2008 Tundra up about 6 months ago, I saved approx. 10k. It was used with only 3200 miles on it. A that time and with this truck it made sense. Look at the used market now on the Tundra`s here in Canada. They have depreciated just like any North American truck.

I sold that truck and bought a new 2009 Tacoma here in Canada. With Toyotas lower cdn pricing on the 09's (it helped that my dealer wanted to `deal`), the higher US dollar and paying transport from the southern US (where the best deals are) it is no longer worth it IMO to bring one up. I had some difficulty selling the Tundra because it was a US truck as well. When you do the math now you maybe save 3k on a new Tacoma- Try to sell the US Tacoma in Canada and it will be on the bottom of most buyers list. There is a 2007 TRD with only 6k miles on it at my dealer and it has sat there for 4 months- It is because it is a US truck. When they get a CDN Tacoma in is is gone within a week.

 

Well I just bought mine and save 5.5K. I think that when I sell, I priced it for 5.5K less than all the others (it would sell).

When I first looked into picking up a new 2009 Tacoma in the States, I could of easily saved $3000. With the CDN dollar below 93 cents U.S., I would be lucky to save $800.

Oh well, not much I can do now. Deposit is going down on the truck today! I should be driving it by Wednesday.

 

There are things which are bundled in the US and not here, just like there are US models which aren't sold here. The two door, for example. I don't remember the specifics, but there were some 'safety features' in the US 2008 model that were not on the Canadian version.

 

Yes there are different option packages- but they are the same truck built at the same plant. Same as the Tundras

 

Never said it weren't. But if you get a US truck which happens to have an option which is unavailable in Canada, you might find getting parts challenging if something to do with that option develops a problem. Not that that woudl be deterministic to a purchase, but its worth knowing: if you buy a 2 door Taco in the US there are some part you may have trouble finding up here, because they don't sell 2 doors here.
