I think whoever you refinanced with screwed you. A lower rate is a lower rate. Nothing else should change :notsure:

^^^^ this, you always want to take as much off the top (cost of the truck) as you can before they give you any monthly payment numbers.

Car loans are simple loans. The only leverage you can get, is get pre-approved from your bank/credit union and see if the dealership is even close to the same rate.

If you go that route don’t tell the dealership you have your own financing until after you have set a price. Don’t negotiate the monthly price. That’s how they get you hooked the add $10 a month then another 10 dollars a month that’s adding $1200 over the life of the loan.

Also don’t be afraid to play hard ball. These guys do it for a living. They will screw you if they have to. You should have the same mentality. They will stretch the truth. Don’t be afraid to walk away.

Down payment can also depend on the interest rate. If buying new at 1.9%, its worth investing the cash somewhere else, or paying off higher interest debt.

Buying used, expect to be in the 5-9% interest rate. Depends on your credit history.

This is why I don’t put any extra payments in to my loan. That money is better off in my investment account.

walking away usually works too! we did that with my mom Subaru, left to have dinner and they were blowing up her phone. went back after and negotiated till they dropped there price more on the cost of the car and finally got what she wanted, left with the car around 11:30pm.

You refinance when you have equity, and are willing to extend/decrease the length of the loan. There is usually a cost for this and it’s rolled into the new payment amount. That’s how the bank makes their money. Rule of thumb is if it’s not 2 points lower, don’t do it unless you are willing to pay more to have a smaller monthly payment but extend the length.

They will call back unless they just can’t do it.
If you go back without them calling you back your not going to get any reductions. Expect to pay the last price you negotiated.

Most likely bank/credit union. I was planning on seeing one this week to start and see what I'd be approved for.

    Got it.

    Smart, makes sense.

Agreed. Focus on the total not the "monthly"

    Roger that.

Haha yeah! That'll be most of what I get from my truck.

Not afraid to play hardball, but idk if it'll be via a dealer or private party.
Pretty well familiar with sales tactics from my job, but not familiar with financing.

Fingers crossed it'll be closer to the lower!

    That's awesome!

@eccracer104 if you’re apart of a credit union I think they tend to have better (lower) rates on loans just FYI.
