Wonder how the stock plastic intake manifold is going to handle boost? Maybe we will see a sweet fabricated aluminum manifold in the future.

If I remember correctly, the Focus ST has a plastic intake mani and is boosted from stock. It was becoming quite popular to swap it into the mazdaspeed3's around the time I sold my car. So I would say that plastic isn't an issue, especially in a vehicle that doesn't necessarily NEED high boost pressures once boosted. Most buyers of the twin turbo kit won't run super high boost pressures I would expect, seeing as the stock ST's could see anywhere from 21-24, maybe even more, before swapping out the mani

Yeah I dont think intake pipe is as much as an issue as blowing hose couplers. I remember that back in my turbo days!

I’d imagine you’d have to build it stronger for a vacuum than you would for a few pounds of positive pressure.

I'll second that. Had an ST and ran 28 lbs of boost for 2 years without an issue. I've never once heard of a manifold issue either. With that said, the plastic manifolds have quite a few advantages to a metal manifold. The two most obvious being they are significantly lighter and have much less heat transfer. Keeping those charge temps as low as possible is crucial with any FI setup.

You’d probably be happy with the Magnuson supercharger whenever that comes out. As will I.

So is a turbo or supercharger for the 3.5 just a matter of time...or are we all optimistically anticipating one?

I haven't read anything definitive yet, but I also don't monitor this forum as close as others on here.

A few people including my self have reached out to Magnuson and they said they are releasing one in 2018, they just havent officially anounced it. You could “probably” get a more solid answer from magnuson.

When I asked Magnusson they told me 2019.

This engine will be able to boost no problem. Very confident about it.
