might be part of the issue is patience with welding.....i also have the issue of not enjoying the dark ass lens as I can't get a clear view of what I am doing...even with big lights......not to bad with oxy welding....still dirty and thick......wire and stick...yeah, can never get the heat right.......

thought about doing the classes as those guys get paid well...at least on union crews....

Welding has been good to Red Beard money wise.
As for the dark lenses a auto dark will fix that. Hell I have 5-6 shades of lenses and 3-4 different types of hood to choose from depending on what material and processes I am welding at the time.

that is part of the issue, i have trouble seeing through the lens enough to track the line or seam I am after......spot weld no issues, running welds are a problem.

would love to learn heli arc or vacuum chamber welding...always thought it was cool as hell watching people weld magnesium and aluminum bits.
never thought magnesium could be welded.......

Tig (heli arc) welding is really not much different from oxy/fuel. It is all about cleaning your material well then it is just feeds and speeds.

Yes magnesium can be welded just not in the presence of oxygen. Magnesium bronze is a fun material to weld too.

I wanted to learn the inert gas welding when we were building race bikes as it was a quick way to fix up the aluminum frames and mounts from a crash without worrying about frying other parts as it could be done without removal of the engine and assorted stuff, not my job, mine was the engine, frames and welding were someone elses responsibility....... would have been nice to know how to fix my own cases after a crash though.....

You can use slotted or punched angle iron with the holes and build a quick mount for those Jerry’s. Kind of like an erector set of you remember that from the 80s...

That’s exactly it. The one I saw was even attached to the bed rail channel. Was pretty slick and I think the guy said it was like 20 bucks to make. You need that angle iron with holes and hardware to attach it together
