Fade back into black!

I’ve done painting, dip, and heat gun. Eventually I painted my bumper and flares with rustoleum truck bed because I was tired of redoing it every 6 months. If you paint make sure you spend the time to prep.

I had someone back into my front bumper and it flexed it enough to crack the truck bed coating off. It won’t be that hard to touch up, but that is always a concern with painting plastic.

 

Why cant we just use spray paint? Bad idea?

 

I used the truck bed liner paint from Harbor Freight and rolled it on. It's been 3 years and it still looks black. I did zero prep.
I think the physical action of painting/rolling gets the bedliner to adhere to the plastic better.

Spray painting a not completely smooth surface will result in a sub par adheasion. The paint is going want to flake off sooner than you want.

This is just my scientific observation.

 

The early 1st gen wheel trim moldings are white fiberglass. It takes a plastic paint to cover the white spots that come up from wheel chips.



I used Krylon Fusion for Plastic on mine.

It worked well for the wheel trim, so I used it on the front bumper.



Since it bonds to plastic, no priming required.

Use mineral spirits to clean before hand.



I keep everything shining like new with 303 Protectant. Low maintenance from here on.

 

my wheel trim moldings seem to be a chrome and rubber strip on the surface, but its fiberglass underneath that? maybe aluminum like the part in the door window area?
i have not ever noticed any chipping or discoloration in mine, just rubber trim dressing makes their day most of the time!

I guess I'm the only one here who did some "as seen on TV" crap called "Wipe New". Yeah I fell for it one day while shopping in a CVS store and spotted it in their "As Seen On TV" compilation isle. Well I applied it almost 9 years ago on the front valance, the hood cowl, and the rear bumper pad. Still looks like I applied that stuff last week. Granted, my truck is always garaged, but my 9 years means those who apply this stuff on a constantly outdoors truck may only need to re-apply it every few years.
