    Hey guys,

My Father-in-Law totaled his 2016 Tacoma double cab 4x4. We bought it back because it seemed minor. Well it seems the frame is bent. Have already bought it so right now we are looking at buying a new frame or options. Any one here have the ability to help pull the part number for the frame? It's the short bed. Is it possible to use a second Gen frame?

    Thanks
    Joe

Here I thought you were gonna complain about being famous.......

Is there a frame shop nearby that you could check with to see if they could pull it out? That might be cheaper. Buying a new frame would probably be anywhere in the neighborhood of $10-15k. Maybe even more. Don’t know about 2nd gen.

Ok I think I found the part number. I do know of a frame shop here in ATL. I am just a little concerned about the quality of the repair.

I would call them, and ask if you can see their shop, watch some of their work, etc. get a good feel for the business, if they’re reputable, they should be glad to ease any concerns a customer might have. Can’t hurt to try!

    BTW, welcome to TW!

I maybe out of line here, but being this is 2017 pics might be very helpful to an expert in body repair in giving advice??

And yes, I got to say it...

Would be cheaper to have it put on a table and pulled out....if that is your issue.

    Have the frame pulled straight.
If there is body damage, keep in mind the Gen 3 Tacoma cabs were stamped out of high strength steel. Not easy or cheap to have them repaired.

Pics? How bad was it crashed. Never thought of using a 2nd Gen frame... I wonder if they carried that over too.

Just spray some rust underneath and go into the dealer. Tell them you heard of a free frame replacement program on rusted Tacomas

But like others stated, I would see if a legit frame shop could get it trued to factory specs before a compelete replacement.

I fixed the front left lower control arm and such. The rear bed panel just had superficial damage. The front bumper supports were unaffected.

How did you come about finding out the frame was bent after you bought it back?

I hope he bought it back for next to nothing. Because a salvage titled truck is going to be worth what the frame cost after fixing it.

When something is totaled you have to expect the worst. So it's something we expected. We are in GA. I took it to Toyota and they put it on a lift. They showed me it wasn't square. Once fixed I was just going to keep it. Of course it was cheap.

Dang, they just about come that way. My bed and cab were misaligned when new, and the cab still sat a bit off to one side compared to the frame after the dealer tried to fix it. I took it to a real bodyshop and they took care if it properly. Have the frame shop check it too as a second opinion.

Thanks, I am trying to find one now in ATL. I know that I would never buy a rebuilt title. However, This was purchased new by a family member and it's still way cool. I will just keep it for a long time.
