I may need to buy my first one already built and go from there. Which would you choose, M&P 15 Sport 2, Ruger 556, or DPMS Oracle? Also, is it a real issue with mounting a scope with a rifle that has an A2 sight already installed? I'm ignorant when it comes to AR's. I'm trying to learn all the parts and "language"

Right. I understand that. However, folks who are misinformed say it's because of the shooting last week.

I had an A2 front sight on one and ran it with a scope for a while. It's not a major issue at high zoom but at something like x2 or x3 it can get in the way a little. Easiest thing to do would be get a new gas block for $10-30 and replace it. It is just two pins that connect it to the barrel and one the connects the gas tube to the a2 sight. It will take 15 minutes max with a small hammer and punch to replace it.

Edit: I have shot the s&w before and really liked it. I have heard very good things about the ruger and s&w but never owned one.

Buying one ready to go is a simple way to get in the game.
But building one will give you chance to learn how it operates and what each part does.

    Can't go wrong either way.

No lie, my first comment on the topic was uninformed. Glad I was able to find the facts.

    Too much.
This is a great question. At this point, anything else I purchase would be a luxury. Would I like another rifle? Sure, but I have storage constraints that I need to stay within. Would I like another handgun? Absolutely. I'd love a .22 target pistol to share the drawer with the other handguns, but it's not particularly necessary right now. I have all the calibers I need right now, and plenty of ammo for each, so I never have to panic buy.

I don't have storage constraints....more like moving constraints.
Not owning my own place sucks.
