Yep. He already carries a 5.11 rush 24 pack, so will look for the complementary one for that size pack.........

Let me know what you find. I have always liked 5.11 stuff, but finding a backpack that fits a 6yo might be tough. I've got some kevlar panels I might be able to sow in his existing packpack.

Plenty of IIIA stuff, cheap, light, but only pistol rounds. I have noticed the rifle caliber ones, are 6+ lbs. still researching.......

With all do respect guys! How many kids we're shot in their back VS other areas?

Once you get above IIIA, the weight more than quadruples and you get into plates. If you wanna stop 5.56, you gotta go to at least III. Can you justify a kid carrying that around? What are the chances they'll have access to the backpack when all hell break loose? What percentage are shot in the back in these scenarios?

Sad that the location of a potential hit to a body even has to be discussed :( ick.........

Sad that it has to cross my mind that I should be giving my plates to my 6yo.

Yeah, agree not many shot in the back. But......during active shooter drills, they have everyone huddle up in the corner, away from the door. hide behind your pack, hold it in front of you. no lockers these days, backpack always with the kid.

yeah, the thought crossed my mind a week ago, and have been seriously contemplating this ever since. cheap insurance should anything ever happen, and likely it never will, but, you never know. And it may not protect him should the situation arise, but I would like to think I gave him the best chance I could give him to make it. This latest one hit me hard, having lived in that same community years ago, and having a kid, who would have been in 9th grade in that same school if we still lived there.
