2016 OVTune Tacoma 3.5L Manual Transmission / Engine ECU Reflash

He doesn't mess with the Atkinson/Otto cycle. Hey was saying that in the future he is going to experiment with turning it off to see if it effects fuel economy.

 

@OVTune is the 2018 tune specific for each dongle? Getting the tune from someone else. Want to make sure I dont brick my ecu.

The tune is matched to your VIN/ECU.

 

I would have thought that but the program he provides to download your tune for the 16-17 owners doesn't require the vin. I think the licencing is done in the dongle.

Edit: AS stated, the dongle is the key... otherwise you'd have to enter credentials when using the flash manager. Ruggybuggy SHOULD be able to share the file with the other '18 M/T guy. Don't know for sure though.

I have about 20 miles on my 2018 so far. the power improvement down low seems to be improved but the throttle responsiveness makes it difficult to tell. It is just very jerky when moving on to off throttle. I will continue for a bit longer to see if the partial throttle input improves but I actually prefer the previous tune 1.03 better because of how the throttle works.

 

Your the first person to report about the tune on the 18. I thought the tune for the 18 would have a similar review as the 16-17 tune. I haven't had a chance to flash mine.

I haven't used the FlashManager yet, because 1.03 for the AT hasn't been release yet. But if it's true that FlashManager only asks for your dongle key, then @OVTune must be matching that key to your specific VIN/ECU behind the scenes on his site.

 

Pretty sure licenses are bound to the ECU. Of you sell your tuning hardware, it would be minus the price of the license as the new purchaser would have to buy a license to tune their ECU.

 

I would think there should be a way for OVTUNE to know that you reflashed to stock tune so you could transfer ?i am contiplating a 2018 taco.

I didn't disappear on you I sent the files to you first. Not sure why you didn't get it but I resent this morning as soon as I saw your messages.

 

Flash Manager might pull your dongle info automatically. When I installed FM, I already had my dongle plugged in. Opened up FM and immediately proceeded to obtain my MT maps. If the dongle key was provided, I certainly didn't need to provide it on my own

 

I reflashed my 16 back to stock and got the 18 tune installed from the email he sent. If there is anything in the process for tracking it is not exposed to the user.

 

You flashed a 18 file on your 16 truck?
