Good luck, having actual armor for rifle as well as pistol you will be lucky to find rifle armor that will stop rnds without weighing a ton.

BTW all those books they carry around can be used stop rifle rounds. Add to that some soft body armor and they should be good multiple layers of protection

FBI and others have done penetration tests with walls and additional barriers.

Here is a quick youtube video where a pistol rnd only went through one book at point blank

interesting, good stuff. so a level IIIA plus books might be the ticket :notsure:

honestly though, there are no books anymore. Its all electronic. My kid has a binder, and some folders, a lunch, and stinky gym clothes in his bag usually.

Well even that a computer, binder with paper etc. The batteries especially in laptops are dense enough some can stop a .45.
Those backpacks I sent you a link are already level IIIA so you add another IIIa inside it plus the binder with paper, make sure it is all the way full of paper and very dense (that is key), plus his other crap he should be good. But you could always set up a scenario and take what you want him to carry for protection to the range and test it out until you can find something that will work. There is now armor that is made out of UHMWPE that may work also compared to the heavy plates.

Just throwing this out there... if the student is in a school that uses Chromebook variants of laptops, the batteries in those are much thinner than regular laptop batteries and are not very substantial.

A lot of it has to do with the density and hardness of the material. For example if you take paper and put a bunch of it all fanned out a 9mm will go through almost an infinite amount if you stack that same amt of paper really densely it won't penetrate very far. But very true the smaller thinner ones may not have the same stopping power as my massive one that weighs 10lbs

Thats what I'm saying. These batteries aren't dense like your regular, lithium-ion laptop battery.
