Left the Tacoma Family

I recently bought a 2003 VW Jetta TDI 5spd instead of another tacoma to take to college. I will miss my truck but I will enjoy getting 50 mpg. Pics are soon to come

Don't blame yourself for making the move to the vw.
It's expensive running a truck and I am sure you will see the savings immediately.
I normally drive a 97 Saturn to work.
30+ per gallon vice 20 per gallon is very noticable at the end of the month.
Very evident since charge all my gas on Amex and I see the charges on one sheet

Yeah the Jetta's are nice. I bought a new 2006 Jetta TDI and drove it for almost 5 years and sold it with enough left over to buy my Tacoma 2003 Xcab 4X4.

I could drive the jetta for 2 weeks w/o a fillup. Now I can't go a week.

My Taco has a 2.7 and 5 sp but I still only get 20-21 mph. It should get better than that.

I was hoping I would drive the jetta long enough that someone would be selling a diesel small truck in a few years but that never happened.

It's a terrible thing when every gas car you see on the road has a diesel twin in europe and S America that gets 50% better fuel mileage than the gas model.

Toyota's small diesel trucks get 30+ mph with more hp and torque.

Just sayin.

 

Nything diesel is cool in my book. I drive a POS 1988 Corolla to work everyday, lol.

But my dads buddy who has been a machanic for like 30 years, just told me that the Jetta is one of the top worse cars right now. Apparently there always in the shop getting shit fixed, But im not sure if thats the Gas one or not... Im sure it is.

 

Sorry for your loss, haha. Great choice of vehicle though. The diesel VW's are awesome to begin with. I believe you can add a fryer/vegetable oil conversion as well. My friend's ex had that set up, personally saw 500-600 miles per diesel tank when driven properly. The kit isn't cheap, but the savings will pay it off in no time, and then some.
I went the motorcycle route to save on fuel. Gotta love $6 fill ups, with 130+ miles per tank.

 

haha, i don't know about that. My 03' Jetta 1.8T was a money pit. I dumped 6 grand in it last year. Its funny because I sold my 4runner to get it because gas had hit like $4 a gallon. In the end I spent wayy more on the Jetta than I ever would have on gas for my 4R. I hope your's is trouble free for you man.

 

The Jetta is great so far. Bought is with 123,000 miles. it has all the service records, the interior is immaculate, paint is great, and most importantly drives great. I am still keeping the taco back home so my dad can use use it on the farm, but I will drive it very very rarely.

I have some mods for it. First I'm going to add a Gromm ipod interface, chip tune it, add monster mats, and finally put a set of Polk MM6501 speakers in it. Then I will lay low for awhile, probably until I can afford different wheels

 

mine looked exactly like this, platinum gray, except it was the 1.8 and with the sport package. I chipped it, Revo Stg 1 (best investment ever with a turbo car)
