Tacoma - OVTUNE - VFTUNER - Update Info and Original Development

I’d care less about fuel economy if the Tacoma had a bigger fuel tank... I pretty much fill up once a day if not more often and thats with me getting around 20 mpg (approx 350-400 miles per tank)

 

Ever thought of getting that Australian 30 Gal tank on GB?

Thought about it but Ive only seen them for the second gen. They are pretty spendy though and I’m not sure i want to know how much lean that would cause on stock suspension.

The fuel economy on my 2017 is much more consistent than my 2016 was so I dont worry so much now. I was averaging between 13 and 22 with no consistency. That led to me keeping 2 Jerry cans in the bed. I still do but mostly because of the the remote areas I end up in.

 

Random, not really related to this specific tune, but for those who care at all: Mat netted a peak of 238whp on the dyno iirc. When he begins work on his twin turbo setup, if he nets roughly 100hp on top of that, a 3.5L ecoboost Tacoma would have a very similar power-to-weight ratio to the super crew 3.5L raptor. Just fyi lol I went ahead and used curb weight numbers for my Taco Pro (DCSB) and the super crew Raptor because for some reason I was having issues finding the gross weight number for the Raptor.

This isn't to say it'll equal the Raptor in performance and all that. Just was bored and curious

Is turbo lag with a properly tuned twin turbo not really an issue? I've never had a FI truck but I would just guess a supercharger would be better as I'd probably want more power lower rather than higher in the RPM range.

 

Until all that added power eats expensive stuff in the drivetrain behind the engine!

I'm all for MOAR POWER, but will the stock tranny/TCase/axles take it?

I mean we know the 1st/2nd gens weren't grenading left and right with the TRD S/C, right?

 

Mat will be using 28 series garretts, which means boost around 2k rpm I believe he said. So lag won't be a concern

 

I don't have an answer for you, and people won't really know until either Mat has feedback for us or when Magnusson finishes their sc and possibly releases any feedback on their findings.

Edit* This is why I did say something along the lines of that I'm not saying the truck would perform like the raptor or would beat it or anything like that. We just dont know. All I did was run the numbers out of curiosity
