I’m at a complete loss. Changes the carrier bearing out today and the tapping is still happening. Put grease in all the u-joints and it’s still happening. I rode in the bed down the road to maybe hear it better and it seems to be coming from around the carrier bearing. All of the u-joints seem to have zero play in them. I’m about to give in and take it to someone who knows a thing or two more than me. Here is a pic of the old and new carriers: 2625E86F-454F-4BC8-8842-A6D4C2691A0D.jpg

Does the bearing get warm after driving for a minute? Are you lifted?

Can you go into more detail about the tapping, I missed it.

Wow I learned some shit today about how the 4wd system engages.

Hope you are replacing the bearings as well and the rear shoes.

Basically I was driving around one day and it started tapping under all different conditions. I stopped and looked at it all and saw the pinion seal was leaking. I replaced that and only lost maybe 1/4 quart of gear oil. But that didn’t fix the tapping. So next I looked at the carrier bearing and it was super sloppy so I replaced that and that didn’t fix it. All the u-joints seem fine since they don’t have any play. I’m at a total loss. I’m running out of time and money to get this fixed.

You could give buy some 3/8 washers to drop the bearing a bit, I had an issue with my CB that kinda sounds similar and that fixed it.

Also did you torque bearing down right?

What about the double ujoint thing majig right after the CB?

It’s just odd that it’s been lifted for god knows how long as as soon as the seal went bad it started making noise.

    Bearing was torqued correctly.

The double u-joint thing seems tight but at those point is the only metal roatating mass that could be making the noise. I still might take it to a mechanic and pay him to change out the u-joints.

NOT trying to derail anything here:

Anyone have an opinion on these tires? I like em cause there 60$ cheaper than most the prices I’ve found for St Maxx’s this size.

Mine only started causing issues after I put a new bearing on, after being lifted for 1.5 years in the original bearing.

I would still check your ujoints, maybe they’re too tight and seized or something, I’d imagine that’d cause some noise.

Suspension, 33s, some armor... Rust, Gray wire and 2Low, and more. T4r is stock.
I have them on my DC. I haven't put a lot of miles on them but here is my opinion so far: Not the best Mud/Off Road tire I've had on the highway. I've had trouble keeping them ballenced. Wet traction could be better. But they did really well on the few trails I've been on. I will probably go with something else next time just because I spend a lot of time on pavement.

I don't think it will fit a 6ft bed correctly. Aren't those old pickup beds 8ft?
