Do you have any photos of how the Pace Edwards actually mounts to the bed? Does it use the bed rail system? I have the factory tonneau and am wanting to go with the Ultragroove so I can mount bike racks, baskets, etc. Just wanting to make sure that I don't need to do anything else but remove the factory tonneau and install the new one.

It uses the accessory rail in the bed. Pretty sure you can download the instructions on their site. The directions are awful, but not impossible .

Can you put the tailgate down without it hitting the rack? I have a Thule T2 Pro that I used to use when we had an Xterra, but I can't put the tailgate on the tacoma down without it smacking it so it's been sitting in the garage collecting dust.

For all of you guys and gals using the 1UP racks, what do you use to lock the bike(s) to the rack?

Gotcha. What are your thoughts on the Pace Edwards? Would you recommend it?

I run a chain or cable bike to rack and another cable to hitch, but mostly i dont leave them alone on rack. Besides if they dont own a 1Up they probably cant figure out the release

I run a cable lock through the bike frames and around the rack.

I have the 1up wheel lock (https://www.1up-usa.com/product/wheel-locks/), but I don't leave my bike on the truck for any appreciable amount of time without me being nearby (the most time out of sight of it is something like running into a grocery store). My thought is that this type of lock isn't obvious as a cable lock, so someone wanting to steal my bike won't readily see it like they would a cable, try to take the bike, realize that the rear wheel is locked into the rack and bail. I reserve the right to be absolutely wrong and a rube though. ha.

Yes. So far it's been great. I had a Rollbak on my Superduty. The PE is at least as good. The only option they had at the time was vinyl option, so it looks like a soft tonneau. It looks like they are working on a plastic version, and metal.

I have this exact tailgate pad. After my first road trip with it, I was pretty disappointed. I had 3 bikes loaded on, all strapped down with the Velcro-downtube-straps. The bikes just wouldn't stay upright...they were always falling to a 45-ish degree angle and leaning on one another. I must have pulled over at least 4 times to straighten things out. What a PITA!

I previously used a think blanket as a tailgate pad (with no tie-downs) and never had this problem. Maybe it's the slim design of the pad? Maybe it's my bike frame design?? Maybe I'm clueless that I'm an erratic driver??? Not sure about the why but I'm pretty sure I'm returning this thing to REI ASAP.

I have the race face pad with the foam blocks to separate out the downtubes. I've shuttled 5 bikes with it with no problems and no shifting of bikes without need for the velcro fork ties. I'd probably only use those if I was shuttling bumpy fireroads. My only complaint with the pad is that the tailgate opening for the latch and camera is tiny and no matter how I mount it I always get some of the pad in the backup cam which drives the parking sensors nuts and eventually I just turn them off when the pad is on the truck. I've also heard from a couple friends that leave theirs on 24/7 that if you do so they only last 1-2 seasons before they start falling apart, possibly from the UV exposure.

Did you ensure that the straps were in the correct location as in this video? It looks like the bike may not be stable if they are too high. I may have to rethink but ordered directly from Dakine.

I watched the same video. The straps were about 1.5" below the top of the tailgate. Like I said before, I had zero problems when I was just using an old blanket.

One thing I did love about the DLX pad is that the handle/camera opening can be held open and you can use the backup camera and handle with no issues. In fact, with the bike straps in the correct location, the handle/camera opening on the pad is perfectly centered around the tailgate handle.

The raceface one is the tits. Holds super solid to the point I don't even use the straps. It survived the trip to White Pocket in Grand Staircase, and up the Grafton road in Hurricane with no strap and did just fine.

If you DO use the straps, they wear out pretty quick so do yourself a favor and go buy some 15" voile straps that work as better than oem replacements. Plus then you have 5 or 6 voile straps...which are basically duct tape for outdoorsy people.
