Help! Can't get the front shock/coil out.

what do I do? I took out the two bolt holding the LCA, but it won't move down far enough to slide the spring out. Any help? or can someone talk me through it over the phone *cough chris4x4 cough*

 

Disconnect the sway bar (bolt connecting to spindle as well as the two bolts on the bracket on both sides. Disconnect the upper control arm from the spindle and the 3 nuts on top of the coilover. You should then be able to manuever it out. Let me know if you need any other help.

 

thanks trying it as we speak. so take the whole sway bar off right?

 

just did this, i didnt take the lower control arm off just the sway bar and got the coils out of there with some wiggling. getting it back in seemed unlikely but it worked for me man. i did the whole front by myself. kinda hard!!! good luck.

 

yeh my dad and I are doing it.. we just unhooked the LCA and took of the sway bar, and teh shock/coil fell to the ground

 

Yea the sway bar limits a lot of the manueverability.

You do realize you didn't need to drop the whole sway bar, right? Undo the sway bar at the end and just detach it from the frame on the side you're working on. Then you can slide it forward. However, when doing the side 2, you have to put the jack under the first side that's done to help raise it enough to reassemble side 2 (the new shock on side 1 will push the sway bar down on side 2). Piece of cake for one person to do (I've done it 3 times myself now...sad to say).

 

Yeah, just one side at a time. We got everything done in about 6 hours LOL, thats breaking for lunch and dinner also. This was my first time doing anything besides an oil change. I couldn't have done it by myself. I might be able to now that I know what to do.

 

Well cool! Yeah, you should have seen me sitting on the pry bar while working the shock out. Once the sway bar was out of the way, I could sit on the pry bar and slide it out with one hand. Now it takes me about an hour to do both sides.
