I got a call from them yesterday and they left a message. I couldn't really hear what they had to say but when I called back they said it was to talk about my electric contract for my business. I told them to never call me again because "electric utility" sounds pretty scammy and I don't have an "electric contract" for my business. Do they try to find lower rates for your electric bills or something? Because there aren't "options" out where I live, you get whoever supplies electricity to the area.

I get calls daily sometimes 2-3 times a day of a recording that says blah blah you can save up to 60% on your current electric bill. The weird part is that it comes from several different MA/NY/NJ numbers. It drives me insane

I lived in raleigh for 6 years, and I fucking hated it. 95% of the time its jehovah witnesses who drive themselves to your block and wonder around all day (I thought they weren't supposed to drive?). The only people I wasn't a complete asshole to were local kids with sports team fundraisers or girl scout cookies.

I never had that in Charlotte. But I also made sure my neighbors thought I was crazy so they wouldn't mess with me

I lived in a nice older neighborhood with mostly retired people whose kids had grown up, it was a very quiet and actually pretty private for the city. Hated people coming from outside and trying to sell me shit. I went to Charlotte a few times for football games and I have to say... there isn't really anything besides the downtown, the rest of the city and outskirts looked real ghetto compared to Raleigh. Flying over it once I noticed that too, I think it's a much more industrial place.

I’m in hooksett on the manch line. I’ll try and find it today. The bracket was bent/broken but it still works. You would just need to figure out mounting it .

I don't know how long it's been since you've been to Charlotte, but even since I moved away it's changed a great deal. I lived right near where Charlotte and sc meet and it was a big new money area. I go back a couple times a year and it looks different each time

There are always options with the utilities. The people calling you are likely small electric utility companies that are using the same infrastructure to sell you electricity but are offering some sort of discounts to sell it cheaper (basically because they're a small company and don't have the overhead that the larger ones do). From what I've gathered, MA and I'm sure other states also, don't allow a utility to be the 'sole provider' for an area just because it's their infrastructure that was put in place first. They have to allow these other, smaller companies to utilize the infrastructure and give you some choice in who you buy from (I'm sure that's an oversimplification, but that's how I understood it)

I've never had many of those people. The last place I lived, it was usually Verizon trying to sell me their services. Now it's 2 or 3 energy companies promising to save me $2 year off of my electric bill.

National Grid is the only provider here. Even if I sign up with a different company, I'm still paying National Grid, but at the other company's barely lower rate.

Same in the Troy NY area. You can switch the delivery service but then you are locked into their delivery charges, but you still pay National Grid at the end of the day. Some renewable energy group tried to sign me up, you get like $50 back and after two months the delivery charge jumps.
What aggravates me about National Grid is how much they charge for the delivery, it usually doubles the bill. When I lived out in Ann Arbor Michigan the delivery charge was like $3 and was very rare for the bill to be over $100. Here its like $100 just to get the power and gas.

Yeah, that's the part that really confuses me... You still pay the same provider, but somehow at a miraculously lower rate because this 3rd party company got involved... Just seems like a bunch of lawyer/gubment bullshit to me. I've never seen where adding another entity to a process makes it cheaper. I'm guessing it's just leveraging a loophole against the utility company which is fine, I suppose, keeps them honest, just not something I wanted to get involved with.

Is that where you live now? That's really close to where I grew up.

The only thing I did seriously consider, and still might do, was the solar farm. You basically buy (or lease might be more accurate) panels on a local solar farm, that farm sells the power back to the utility company and you get a credit on your bill. At least I can follow the math on that one and know where the savings is coming from.
