That does sound like a scam. I'm looking for folks that work in Generation, Transmission and Distribution. I will be coming over to the New England states this summer and won't to pick some brains on employment prospects.

 

We have no gas in my area, but electricity is through National Grid. My bills are usually around $80 with an electric dryer and electric water heater.

A couple months ago I got a letter saying the town formed a supplier agreement to use 100% renewable sources of electricity and lower the rates by a few pennies. I'm at something like 22 cents per kwh total.

The only way that I'd do it would be if they were an integral part of the roofing structure. There's a house in Southern Maine that was built specifically with panels in mind, so the angle of the roof is correct. The panels are laid right over a couple of layers of that adhesive Ice & Water shield and basically act like a metal roof.

The way it works in southern Maine. One company delivers (CMP), and you pay them that amount. You can then choose your supplier, such as CMP which has the public rate, or contract with some one else which is generally less, but at the end of the contract they bump your rate up above the general rate. But no matter who supplies, you send that to CMP and they pay your supplier.

This is because the energy market was deregulated a while back.

 

Same out here in CT where I live.

 

In Maine for a long time you could feed into the system and not get jack, not even an offset for when you use more. Now you can get credit for feeding into, but they want to discount that rate.

 

Hate to say it, but this is when a phone call needs to happen. I never let any of my e-mail exchanges go back and forth like that, if it comes back and there's uncertainty, I just call and straighten it out. Obviously, there are some cases where things need to blow up in e-mail to make sure it's documented, but generally, I don't like e-mails bounce back and forth like that. It wastes too much time and gets no where.

Yeah, CMP (and their parent company, Eberdrola) fought the Net Metering thing hard for a long time. And now that they've been basically forced to do it, they say that it's costing them too much $$. I'd be surprised if there were more than 100 houses in the entire state that are producing more energy than they consume; it's just BS.

 

Agreed. But in this case I wanted there to be a clear description/answer of what was needed since my co-worker was copied on it, and it was right at the end of the day just about and I was trying to get a bunch of stuff done before I headed out to go get my son from daycare. I thought about calling, but figured and hoped the guy would "catch on"... eventually he did thankfully.
