I would seriously consider buying new if you enjoy the test drives. You can still find new 2017s on the lot and they have rebates and low financing rates. Used ones do not sell for much less than new.

@shakerhood is right. You may want to see what you could get a new one for, once discounts were applied. Then you don’t have to wonder how it’s previous owner cared for it. If the price is close enough, and new car financing usually is a lower rate.
You mentioned liking the OR, that’s definitely the most popular trim, and might help resale value. Better bang for the buck, and better ride. I was going to buy an OR, but went hog wild and bought a pro, lol.

Take it from someone who has an 80mi daily commute. Find a different daily driver.

I drive over 80 miles each day and I love the hell out of mine. If u want a Taco get a damn Taco!!!

I also agree with shakerhood though. Banks r normally much more willing to work with u on a new model. Plus the deals r unbelievable on the 17’s. We still have some here where I live in VA if u have trouble finding one.

You know Ima dreamer, and my heart’s offroad. I had to drive away high, so I didn’t get stuck low. Home Sweet Home...
Coming from what angle? I’m ok with the gas...

I test drove both back to back same route. The curved on ramp for the interstate showed me the sport was better for the curves. Nowhere near as much body roll. Most of my mileage is on road.

The shitty gas mileage and the fact of having to stop every 3-4 days to fill up.

Gets me a lot lf AMEX points though :spending:

I had a 100 mile commute for years. I also hated filling up every other day. If I had to commute again, I’d get a cheap Civic that gets twice the mpg and much less maintenance costs.

Of course, this would be in addition to the Tacoma.

That's why I'm about to buy a cheap $1500 Civic soon. The savings in fuel will pay for more Taco mods.

Given your commute, I have to ask: Is the Tacoma your single-vehicle solution?

My truck doesn’t get anywhere near the advertised gas mileage, and I’m kind of mid-pack based on my somewhat spotty memory of what other users report.

If you want a Tacoma to serve a purpose - any purpose other than commuting - then you will probably be well served. But for the daily grind to and from wherever, better options exist, and you can probably keep the Tacoma in the garage and more than pay for them.

Many thanks to all these thoughtful responses.

Here’s the skinny: We are a three car family now, Wife’s, our Solara (26.9 mpg), Dodge Dakota Quad Cab SLT (16-18 mpg). I drive the solara and truck, when the need araises that is at least once a week, and because i am an EDC/bugout junkie, there’s a lot of sh!t going back and forth, IF i want to change everything over. ALSO, there’s the occasional treat of trucking to fly fishing spots between here and work.

As for the gas, I already put it all on a rewards card (cheers @SearArtist) and, thankfully, is not close to exceeding budget, which is set to absorb price hikes. The third car insurance is cheap, but adds up in my mind, to be more than enough to justify going back to two cars from three.

If gas gets insane, I will drive the wife’s sudan (29.6 mpg) and would never get a cheep civic because I am a Toyota man through and through.

BTW, I do use it for way more than just driving, like I have the Dodge. I would take it everyday if it weren’t getting up to 188K miles.

    Thanks again y’all!

If you got the budget for it, then it's not a bad daily driver. Like I said, I drive minimum 80mi/day, and I'm perfectly comfortable. Plus I get double points on gas with my AMEX Gold card, so I'm racking up the points

Is the OR the most popular trim? I mean, it seems that way on the forum, but in the wild, I overwhelmingly see more Sports.
