I’m a fairly new owner of a 2017 DCSB. LOVE the pickup for the most part but I’m curious what you all are using for music storage. I’ve been using a 160gb iPod for years that has about 90gb of music on it.

Occasionally the iPod locks up and requires reset. Minor pain but I’m wondering if there’s a better solution to remain in the vehicle that will still allow me to use playlist functions as well as artist and song search ability.

Anyone found a better solution? TIA!

    I second the Spotify recommendation.

Yeah, I have Spotify and it’s great. Sound quality is better from the USB connection and I have a ton of music already cataloged and ripped at high quality. Also tend to listen in areas with no cell coverage.

My last vehicle had an SD slot and that was OK, just not as slick interface-wise as the iPod.

Yes, Spotify, I’m fully aware of how it works. Looking for a solution that stays in the vehicle, doesn’t require more disk space on my phone, and will hold a large amount of music.

I believe it will. Curious if anyone is using one and if it keeps up speed wise as well as how they feel about the interface.

The Bluetooth in my Tacoma doesn’t seem as sophisticated as my previous vehicle either. I could have my phone connected hands free but all other sounds came through my device (videos, voicemail, etc), not so in this pickup. Part of the reason I want a standalone music source in the pickup, so my mobile device is more usable.

Thumb drives are huge now. Get a 32 or 64 GB and fill with mp3s. As long as they have the proper metadata the truck browse feature will work.

I use a 160 gig iPod classic also. I freezes and I unplug it and it restarts. I have used a thumb drive as well, but can’t get the album art to show. I keep it in reach for when the iPod finally doesn’t respond to being unplugged and plugged back in. For some reason, the album artwork is important to me.

Yep, interestingly the freezing up isn’t just a Tacoma thing either. My other vehicles have all suffered it to one degree or another. I’m more concerned about trying to retain my playlists but I think they’ll be in the same boat as the album art. Though, doesn’t the Tacoma head unit use mobile data to download Gracenote album art?

I keep my old iPhone 6 loaded up with tunes and connected via USB. It works without any issue.

I put about 5000 songs on a san disk 64 GB stick. Plug it in the USB port on the dash. Love it!

It tries to pull album art from some other database or something... it's really crap. Entune is straight up crap.

Hmmm, that’s a pretty good idea. I suppose the iOS is more stable than the iPod?
