Fair question haha, and the answer is none. All of my protection is steel based off where I was wheeling (KY, TN, North GA). Tons of rocks (...large rocks). When I was early on in the build, everyone I rode with had steel and explained to me the reason, then I saw first hand some differences of steel and alum. Alum is great to cut weight and if doing more of the overlanding thing, I think it’s a great option (and yes, it is still very strong). But for somewhere like Elbe (compared to tahuya) I would stick with steel. I don’t think someone will get the same repetition of impacts or hits with alum that they will with steel.

I’ve yet to drive or ride in one myself, I’m sure I’d love it! I do really enjoy that mines a bit older and I specifically chose one without traction control.

Not sure if the new TSS can override operator input, besides the new radar braking feature.

Any one up for a tranny party this weekend?

    :spy:

Picking up my replacement transmission saturday morning, tossing around if I can swap it in between Saturday afternoon and Sunday night. Ive done clutch replacements in less time before, but never an auto trans swap. Doesn't seem too complicated and I'll have every tool under the sun at my disposal. Will be doing it at my works shop in Snoqualmie, heated and out of the elements if anyone wants to come offer moral support and drink a few beers. Also to see the look on my face if this doesn't work the way I think it should work and end up having to throw my old one back in while I find the "suggested" one that fits.

Going to get techstream setup on my laptop between now and then.

I might see if I can pull mine out Friday night and then Saturday all I'd have to do is prep the replacement and install.

Nope, unless you have a 18 which you can turn off TSS. There are more gadgets like blind spot monitoring, back up sensors, etc. You can always get a trim without the tech package so you have less electrical gizmos to go bad in the future.

I really wanted a 2nd gen at first, but the prices here for a low mileage used one were ridiculous. It only cost a couple thousand more to get a brand new loaded one than a 14 or 15 with 30-40k miles on it already.

That’s what I just ordered. Trying to figure out how to recalibrate TSS with a pro grill now.

For sure. My desire to see how big of a boulder I can drive over is exactly zero.
