Have you noticed if your SC (while sitting at idle) has become louder over time?

well crap. Mine is becoming louder. I changed out the coupler (which was slightly loose) but at a loss as to what it could be. TRD/Magnuson does state that the SC has a slight rattle sound, but mine is definitely getting louder. Anyone in TW land have an idea to what could be causing this?

I noticed mine doing the same thing but haven't checked in to it. My sc has about 25,000 miles on it.

How many miles are on yours? Mine certainly is louder when very cold but once it warms up I don't notice much of a louder tone.

Rotor pack bearings are probably wearing out.

That stuff hardly does anything, unfortunately. You'd have to add nearly 8 bottles of the higher end stuff to add enough octane to bring 87 up to 91. I carry a few with me as well for the same reason (if I can't find premium anywhere), but I'd still drive very carefully until I could find the right octane fuel.

They get louder the older they get, mine has too. It's a pretty good indicator of when a rebuild is needed (around 100k according to TRD). Rule of thumb I've read on a few forums/threads is that once the rattle becomes so loud that you can hear it from in the cab while driving, you're probably due for an overhaul on your supercharger.

    Agreed its too soon

And I can hear it faintly from the cab, although Im pretty sensitive to the noise now, and I do listen for it. I guess this summer Ill take out the rotors and the bearings in the back, inspect and replace. Dont know what else could be doen (theyre pretty straight forward)

Does the oil get changed regularly? Not sure what the interval is for the 2nd gen Taco superchargers but I think on 1st gens its every 30k, I do mine around 15k because I'm paranoid like that lol.

Well like I said, SC is a little over a year old. I replaced the coupler a couple months ago, and while I did that, I replaced the oil (even tho the SC has around 10 k miles on it).

Ah gotcha. Yea when I got my truck the supercharger was bone dry, don't know if the PO ever changed it. scared me quite a bit but I've been running it a year now with no issues after keeping an eye on the oil level.

the noise from mine is coming from the housing, not from the front, where the gears are located.

Any chance you could post up a video? Maybe a clip from the front of the truck with the hood up, and one from in the cab while it's running. Some of the videos I've seen/heard on youtube of blowers in need of a rebuild have helped me feel better about how mine sounds. They rattle something fierce when they're going bad.

Somewhat to the contrary, an acquaintance of mine with an SC'd FJ got bad gas from a station near the artic circle. Nobody uses the premium up there, plus the tank had rusted through to the adjacent septic tank... :puke:

Had to replace the whole fuel system in various stages from BFE Alaska back to Nevada.

Sure, thanks for the listen. As you can tell when I have the phone to the front of the blower - no noise. But when I reposition it to the back of the housing, you can hear the 'rattling' inside.
