I had the fabtec 6” on a 2005 tacoma as soon as I put it on I’d wished I hadn’t. Looked good rode really nice compared to factory but boy did it screw up the mpg and the rpms. But hey to each their own. I would never go above a 4” ever again and 3” is plenty.

I had this on my 2004 first gen and I regretted it similarly as well. That was also just before I got into wheeling though so it had a great maller life.

I decided to big for my second gen...long travel.

Remember though...RPM affect has zero to do with lift height, and everything to do with tire size.
Lift height will affect the MPG, but not nearly as much as tire size, tire weight, and rolling resistance.

Just wanted to make sure we properly correlate the changes to the truck to the symptoms seen.

Remember the taller your truck, the bigger profile it makes for the wind. That being said, your stability and ABS can be affected the higher your truck is especially when hitting on and off ramps.

I don't see why there's so many people on here that hate drop brackets. I've got a rough country 6" lift and I'm pretty sure I have more ground clearance than anyone with stock arms and just coil overs. Plus my truck is capable offroad and on the highway.20180221_112128.jpg this 6" kit only drops about 3.5" and my clearance under the front bracket is 16"20180221_112527.jpg measuring around the truck the middle clearance for the frame is 21"20180221_112431.jpg
For those who think the chop is going to make the truck weak, depending on how you argue your point you're wrong. The way the chop works, it moves the mount for the front diff from the stock crewmember to the drop bracket.

    20180221_112220.jpg

The front diff mounts on this lift are pretty badass too, they keep the diff as low as possible while supporting both brackets. So once everything is installed in the truck, it's all holding it's self together.20180221_112154.jpg 20180221_112208.jpg

As far as the front suspension, I have a down travel bump stop and an extended up travel bump stop. So there's really no way of over compressing or extending the icon coil over. The reason there's a spacer under the down travel bump stop is to limit it even further.

So If I had an option to go back, I wouldn't. I feel my truck is a lot more capable the way it sits now as opposed to just some coils.

You're probably fine, but you're still relying on this drop bracket instead of the OEM frame.

This makes people nervous. Bolts instead of welds.

Like I said depending on how you argue the point. This is as strong as the factory mount.

If you’re afraid of bolts shearing, you should also be afraid of welds shearing. This forum is literally the first place I’ve even heard this argument.

The bolts look to be grade 8s which is good to see. For me it doesn't have a nice finished look to it, cut out this little section of the cross member and then that's it. Could weld in some caps or either fully replace the cross member to try and make it a look at bit more factory. Also the ease of going back to stock isn't really there anymore. Yes you can weld that piece back in, but it won't be as strong so you'll have a bit more fab more reinforcing it a bit. So if you are trying to trade the truck back in and want to keep the aftermarket bits then it makes a bit more involved.

But it does make it super easy to fit 35s without much fuss, I would splurge more to get the Fox coilovers so I don't have any strut spacers, but then at that cost might as well go Long Travel. Its a terrible rabbit hole to go down. But to me its the persons truck do whatever fits your style, what you are trying to accomplish, and budget. End of the day though just don't half ass something

Yeah, I really think you justified your setup pretty well. I'm just trying to illustrate why most people would be fearful of a chop.

I feel like it's just people under estimating the strength of steel in general haha if I'm breaking a bolt or the bracket I probably shouldn't be doing what I was with a truck like I have.

Exactly. People need to understand the limits of their vehicles regardless if it is coil over lift, drop bracket lift, or spacer lift. I have run them all on a variety of vehicles and have enjoyed both the look and functionality of them all.

One thing that I have always taken into consideration is that it is my money and my vehicle, and while I do respect others opinions and experiences; in the end it does boil down to individual needs, wants, expectations, and budget.

Yeah but...you don’t actually feel like you require respect from anonymous people on an internet truck forum. Do you? From those same people that think a real lift is what they say it is?
