Thank you for those instructions... but I do have the garage door opener/compass/auto dimming rear view mirror!! Is it even worth it to swap it out?!

It was for me. Like you, I had everything but the outside temp, and I really wanted the temp. I later sold my original mirror so it didn't end up costing me too much to do.

I figured that would be your answer. My dealers response was "they discontinued in 2011 and picked it back up in 2016 who knows why". Like a lot of help he is?!

That's a good call on selling the mirror. I guess I am hesitant to install the mirror myself and do not want to pay someone to do it... I guess it is worth a shot. I was secretly hoping someone would say there is a hidden button that I can press that makes it appear!!

you need to research "bob's automotive mirrors"... he has them ALL... theres several options, compass/temp, with or without back up cam.. and with or without dimming and homelink.

the biggest part about the upgrade mirror is you will get a thermocouple that you have to mount behind the radiator grill. your truck and mine didn't come with one, since toyota decided to get cheap on our years. bob will also include the harness you need to wire the thermometer. its not hard. just search for 10 mins. im not going to look up the link, and fly out to your house to install it. if you can change your oil, you can install this mirror. also, between the overhead compartment and the roof of your truck is a factory plug that you plug bob's plug and play mirror into.

granted, this is only for compass/temp/auto dimm.. the camera intergrated into mirror is a bit more complicated, but achievable. search.

If you had the Entune weather app, would that be enough? Maybe there's a software or firmware update you need? Software is free and you can do it with your phone, firmware the dealer usually makes you pay.

Just some dumb regular crap everyone else has
Nope, mine is a Sport. I had Entune, no Nav, but it did have the useless weather app. I mean useless.

I bought this one from this seller on eBay. It works great. Put it in a 2014 DC OR, running the temp sensor leads was the most time consuming part of the install. Heads up, I did pop a 7.5 amp fuse in the main box under the hood when I tapped into the ignition hot wire in the overhead console. So if after you install the new mirror, your check engine light is on and auto door locks don’t work, check the 7.5 amp fuse toward the front of the under hood box.

I could never read the stock amber compass and temp during the day and even at night it was very dim, and why Toyota put it in place of another cubby taking up so much space when it's just a small simple display just confounded me.

So I decided to do something similar, took the mirror with compass and temp gauge out of a GMC in a junk yard, still a Gentex mirror like OE so mount was the same. I carefully traced and removed the wires, having to depin the plug that went into the mirror to pull the two wire harness through the fire wall. The yard only charged me $15 for it.

Now I have temp and compass in my auto dimming rear view of my 2010 TRD OR that's easy to read and takes up no space. I did lose my backup screen however, I plan is to install a permanent rear/front view camera screens in place of the silly stock temp/comp display. I prefer a single din HU so no screen there and the screen that was in my mirror was a little small (2.3") to really be useful to me anyway.

It also still works with my Birddawg industries mirror riser and ram mount. I'm leaning towards taking the ram ball off and using the mount to attach a dash cam.

Already had occasion to need one but not have one. :bananadead:

The only difficultly I had with the whole ordeal was getting the compass to work, had to look up the calibration procedure from Gentex's site. Originally it only pointed N or NW regardless of true heading.

After mashing the buttons in the right secret code and a few donuts in a field it knows where it goes.

I actually navigate with the compass more than I thought I would, especially helpful in unfamiliar cities where it's easy to get turned around.

I don't have a Tacoma, but lots of mirrors!

Hey all - to clarify, yes, I do business on eBay, but you CAN definitely contact me directly either here on the forum or via email at rearviewmirrors@csinet.net We are working on a website that will go live later this year to make it easier for everyone to order direct. In the meantime, you can always peruse our eBay store to see what all that we have available, but feel free to contact me directly as we can do better on pricing when you purchase direct as opposed to on eBay.

Bought a few months ago. Ready to mod.
Just wanted to give Bob's mirrors a positive review. I installed a GENTEX mirror with temperature gauge since my 2014 didn't have it. Great customer service and excellent product!

Feel much safer knowing if there is black ice on the road before I hit the brakes!
