**All machined aluminum threads will require the upkeep of Permatex #81343, #80208 (or equivalent) anti-seize lubricant. All machined stainless and titanium threads will require the upkeep of Permatex #77134 (or equivalent) nickel anti-seize lubricant. I will ship them with the proper lubricant applied, but for added insurance, the buyer should apply the appropriate lubricant to the shifter shaft threads on their truck prior to installation. Brass or Copolymer threads do not require anti-seize lube.**

**All knobs sold are raw material, no coating or color fill is applied. If you wish to coat the product I strongly recommend that all threads and polymer components be masked. Coat at your own risk.**

 

Any chance of one for an automatic? It doesn't look too much different.

 

I just need a stock knob to take measurements from, and it can happen.

Thanks! Yep, all of my personal projects are done with fusion.

For company stuff, I have to use mastercam. This has to do with documentation sharing, and it is also frowned upon to tie up the network licenses for levels 3+ unless absolutely necessary.

 

@7r41lbr34k3r here is a pic of an automatic knob just to give you an idea. I'll work on getting an OEM knob stop send you.

 

Definitely some challenges to be faced here. The boot collar for this is epitrochoid-shaped. I would have to make a transition from milling that shape ... then blend into a simpler (i.e. machinable on a lathe) profile. Otherwise, milling the entire thing would price it quite a bit away from what any reasonable person would pay.

Edit: or, I could make the collar itself ... change the OD feature to a more blend-able shape. Then we would have to figure out the feasibility of swapping that out without damaging the boot.

 

Yeah seems like a lot of work. They are some great looking knobs though!

The only one in Canada, looks great! Definitely keep your tongue away from that for at least a few more months.

I might tackle this project, but I don't think a similar boot connection is going to be achievable at this price point. I might just have to make a regular knob.

Lol crappy pics, I'll try to get some better light angles for less glare.

As a side note, I didn't chamfer the lug and I didn't put an insert for a tortion fitting either. I was just putting it on to see how it all worked and it snugged up real nice in the perfect alignment. Then I thought what the hell lemme try the collar and it clicked right it place and is firm and snug. Will have to see if temps fluctuations loosen anything up but for the moment its perfect as is.

For the auto knob engineering...would it not be easier to fashion a shifter boot fitting to your biĺet and 86 the plastic collar altogether?

Yes, that would be ideal if the boot collar was easy enough to remove. I don't think the product would go over well if the installation was too involved.

I wouldn't make them out of delrin, simply because the nature of making this eccentric design means that I must do my work-holding on visible features. I must be able to perform a final polishing operation to remove any superficial scratches. With delrin, the chances of it looking like shit by the end of the process is pretty high. I wouldn't want to sell anything that is less than what I call "perfect". Delrin does not polish well, at all.

If the threads and sphere were on the same centerline, I would be able to make a fixture that would allow me to skim scratches from the outer profile on a lathe, all in one simple operation. I could technically still make a fixture for the eccentricity, but it would be a real pain in the ass to set up. So it's 2 parts of me worried that the knob will scratch/need a coating to protect it, to 1 part pure laziness.

EDIT: I can make delrin knobs with the hybrid MT design discussed later in this thread.

As far as the flossy coating, I'd be offering that for sure if I knew what the heck they were doing ... and it wasn't too much trouble.

The beauty of raw aluminum and stainless is that you can just file/sand/scotch brite any kind of imperfections that may develop.

Some of you may also have noticed that just by driving you are slowly polishing it to a shiny finish. You may even have to hit it with some scotch brite from time to time, just to keep from blinding yourself.

A couple side engrave options for the retro offerings. The second side would be mirrored, of course ... so they both flow the proper direction.

 

Also, thanks to @MarcosBalderas, I expanded his SR bed side decal side engrave request/idea to the rest of the trims.

I might have to replace mine with this configuration, but I'll wait until the end. You fellas have some great ideas.
