You will be just fine for sliders. As far as DOM and HREW being the same thats completly false. Right along the lines of using "cast black pipe" aka plumbers/fire sprinkler pipe. To be used as a bull bar on a bumper or a motorcycle frame.

The Hrew is hot rolled electrically welded tubing. DOM is drawn over mandrel tubing. When putting in a radius they have spring back or How much back to 0* the tubing returns. Hrew is horrible and inconsistent for that. Tubing is structrual, pipe is for plumbers. The strength and stretch or how thin the tube wall gets when radius also different between the 2. If you take 1/8 wall of both and put a 3.5in radius at 90* in the 2. The hrew will end up with a 16th wall while the dom will loose 1/32. It also effects the kinking or rippling of the tubing, hrew will kink, flare out, get a ripple, on the same bend them dom. Im not going to get into mill specs and machineability. If you want examples of my work and how I learned I will share. Until then they are NOT the same, here is some reading if you want to educate.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!
It wouldn't hurt to use locktite. I installed my coils/shocks, added leafs, replaced UCAs and LCA bushings about 1 1/2 -- 2 months ago ... 2 weekends ago I went through and re-checked the torque on everything. When I got to thos 3 nuts on top of the coils, on the passenger side, I didn't need to check to know they were loose... they were backed off about 1/8 inch.

On the subject of sliders, anyone know how to weld chromoly steel? I got some 2.25" square tubing with .25" thick walls and some extra chromoly tubing think it's 1.75" or 2" diameter with .25" walls. From when my brother made his roll cage for his racecar he bought to much of it and it's been under a tarp for a year in my barn

you don't need .25'' wall tubing. Extra weight for nothing.

It will be more pita the worth. Chromoly is sensitive and a exteneded/regulated heat cool welding proscess then its worth. Tensile strenth per square, is greater than mild steel.

Yea, you pretty much have to spot weld it. And it's heavy compared to similar dom steel tubing. But chromoly is alot stronger.

Not spot weld just tig with a specific filler and manage the cooling rate. Kind of like cast iron.

A 90s bed is spot welded fyi, the technique, and equipment is different.

Im not reciting my notes verbatum but a trustes scource is always good to have.

HAs anyone ever put an outside temp gauge in their trucks? Is it even an option? I know when I put my hand out the window it’s cold as balls, but that’s not very specific.

I pulled the bed off to fix mine. It was actually just a burnt wire on the connector inside the tank.

Nice. Gotta get a tubing bender and add those kick ups myself. I like it.
