    Hey all,

I know the OR has a few more hardcore off road features like a locker, atrac and crawl control compared to the sport.

2 of my buddies have a lifted 2500 sport 4x4 ram and a 1500 4x4 ram. Do these usually have lockers or atrac like the trd OR 4x4 features, or are they more like the sport feature-wise? Not sure if other American 4x4 trucks have all the extra OR capabilities or not. I’m talking their basic 4x4 trucks, not a totally suped up one of course.

Basically I’m trying to see if the sport is dumbed down in the off road department compared to most 4x4s out there and how it stacks up.

Jeep Rubicon and Dodge Power Wagon are the two American winners hands down.

International winners are Mercedes Unimog, LR Defender and Land Cruiser.

To answer your question though, most US 4WD pickups are more in line with the TRD Sport. Also several manufacturers offer some version of a more "off road" version. Some, like the TRD Off Road, have real features like a rear e locker and ATRAC. GM offers an off road version of the Colorado with some options.
Ford went a different direction with the Raptor. Amazing truck but the big deal with it is the suspension, not the 4WD.
The Power Wagon is just bad ass.

Ok so many lifted 4x4 trucks you see out there don’t necessarily have the locking rear end or atrac, it’s more just off road specific versions like the zr2? I’m asking because if I go off roading with some of these guys, I’m wondering what the chances are of them having the same off road bells and whistles as the trd OR.

honestly if you go with the OR you will have a +1 on them. Most American trucks you will be lucky or hard pressed to find anything but open diffs front and rear. Which is what the sport has. So in that respect yes they are like the sport. There were some versions where you could opt for a limited slip and rarely a locking rear axle. But unless ordering it new from the factory good luck finding one. Put some more aggressive tires on that OR and you will run circles around your buddys stock dodge. You will go thru all the things (within reason...)

I think you read that wrong. He was talking about full size trucks where you have to specifically order from factory to get lockers.

I would agree with hiPSI and only add that G-Wagon is a pretty competent vehicle (though considering the price, it should be...).

As to what some of the other guys will be driving, I suppose to some extent depends on what part of the country you are in. Because in the North East, everyone I know that runs around in the woods owns a beat-up Wrangler. The general idea being that that's about the only thing that vehicle truly excels at as well as the fact that it makes no sense at all to thrash something that still requires a monthly payment...

Does the sport have any LSD, or is it always open? Does the locker only make sense if you’re doing more serious stuff for which you prob shouldn’t be doing on a truck you’re making payments on anyways?
