What is the best tailgate seal system for a 2017 TRD OR, 5' bed?

Experiences with the following package...?

I do not have a use for this, my bed stay pretty darn dry. I have the TonnoPro tri-fold and that it. I had my bunker gear back there for the last few weeks and we have gotten more than 5"+ of rain in that time peroid. Everything is thankfully dry.

Rain shmain, it’s the dust I’d like to keep out of my shell, something I never worried about while mall crawling. I tried a lot of weather seals around my tailgate on my Gen 1, but dust is a hard one to keep out when driving on dry dirt roads and I never came up with a good one I liked. That Rox Block seal looks nice, but what happens to the edges when you drag stuff over it, and being black like the bed, when it heats up from sunlight, what happens to the glue? Just a thought. side-tailgate seal and it seems to keep the water out pretty good, I don't have many issues with dust (yet).

I got the Extruded Solutions seal (without Rock Block) ... twice. First time I didn't follow the directions and it worked OK, not great. Decided to try it again, followed directions plus used a few inches of 3M sealing tape on a couple of gaps where the gasket didn't really fit well. It now seals dust very well. I live in the West where it's dry 6+ months a year, just returned from a Baja trip with a fair amount of dirt, no complaints. I wouldn't keep clean white sheets or sensitive electronics back there, but for bagged clothes, food, camping gear etc it's a night-and-day difference from unsealed. Note, this is with a shell on the back. I also sealed the front bed corners and drain holes with the 3M tape.

I’m also getting a lot of dust in the side cubbies from the open cover lock holes on the bottom- it’s dusty out west! Will try 3m suggestion there, thanks.

OP- if you were talking about sealing rain out, hope you don’t mind the dust.

My OP was just a general question about keeping most things out, including dust. Not expecting it to be air tight, but to keep most water/dust out.

A member here created a more or less "waterproofing kit" for those cubbies. It includes some plastic bits to seal those holes you're talking about and a seal to go around the outer edge. Do some searching and you'll find it.

 

I don't have the 3M tape version that I used handy but it's not what you linked, it's the thick black electrical tape that sticks to itself, available at Home Depot or any hardware store. The tailgate seal is what you linked. Thanks for mentioning the side cubbies, I also sealed those up with some duct tape and spacers around the slots where the cover tabs go through the cubbies; not a long-life solution but has lasted all summer. There's a thread somewhere on TW from a guy who is selling 3D printed seals similar to what I made, but more elegant

 

can you show how you sealed the front corners?

 

I dont see anything special about these products. Is there any reason to not use whatever adhesive back foam weather strip I might already have around the house?

 

I am more interested in sealing the front rail corners

I get more water from under bed side rail cap running down inside. Guess it gets thrown up into bedsides off tires. Is there a good way to seal sides without removing my shell?

That's me, check my sig for a link to the Cubby Covers. I will say I was the first one to put the covers on my truck last May and they are still holding strong; finishing up a NE winter here so it made it through that too.

 

See below (2nd Gen)- I used that same seal along the sides of the tailgate and it keeps most of the dust out. I have very little that comes in along the bottom, so i didn't even bother with that. I still get a little bit in the small space in the outer corners where my cap door meets the top of the tailgate.

 

Is the top angled seal the same as the tailgate seal but at the opposite side and angle?

 

Correct. That top piece fills that area along the edge of the tailgate cap and some of the space where my cap rear window/door meets that area.
