The value to the OP is the point of this whole thread.....

How is the scoop NOT the pinnacle of useless gimmicks?

Drive a Miata sometime, then you'll understand.

Then state what is valuable to you and quit knocking other people.

I'm not saying it's not. It's simply for looks. I can't use Kate Upton but that doesn't mean she's not pretty.

    No. It's a girl car.

I'm sorry but calling a locker a gimmick is asinine.
You might want to take a breather and look back at what you have posted.

    Stock motor in that series.

I guess a brake booster is gimmicky and never used either.

I agree with this. The rear view mirror obstructs my vision a bit and when I test drove the sport with the fake scoop it made it worse. I really love the pro, but the hood scoop, leather seats(I prefer cloth) and cost made me go with the OR. Only thing is I wish you could get the OR in the cement color..love that freakin color.

It's all good brother. I know what I said and I said it because it needed saying. Don't feel I need to discuss it any more.

OR all the way. I couldn't get daughter's 2Runner unstuck, but the locker & crawl mode + gravel assist got the OR unstuck. That was some slick mucky mud. Stock tires were pretty much useless once they packed up.

Free roadside assistance from Farm Bureau insurance paid off that day.

My next purchase is a 30' LONG snatch strap. 10' tree saver was all I had in the truck, and it was obviously too short.

Seeing my son get his 1st gen Tundra 4WD stuck with wheels spinning had me sold on the locker. OR also has much higher resale value than Sport.

I'm just glad we were able to come to an agreeable conclusion, and have a sensible and reasonable discussion helping OP pick his truck.

    You're welcome OP.

Great post. I guess I could always sale my sport hood to make up the difference in resale, huh? since the or has a much higher resale. Lol

Does the Sport have open diff or LSD? Why does it seem people are saying the sport will choke in a little mud or snow? These are 4x4s after all, no? I'm admittedly also contemplating the sport or OR... however I don't plan rock crawling and serious off road. I DO want something that can be taken off road sometimes and rock in the snow and mud for the most part.

I always like these threads at the beginning and hate them at the end. Guys, we are lucky bastards who get to drive Tacomas. They are bad ass trucks and we love them. We use them as daily drivers, hard core off road rigs, overlanding platforms, and toy haulers. Some of us mod them some of us like to leave them stock. They are expressions of ourselves and they bring us together to create the coolest automotive community on the Internet. I dreamed of owning a Tacoma for a long time and I’m super happy for every person I see rolling down the road in one. Embrace the Taco. Bring it in for a hug guys, bring it in.

You can absolutely off road a sport. I’ve done it. It’s plenty capable. Check out Off Road Bandit where he and his buddy Chad go off roading. You’ll see what the Sport can do.

I love my sport, but can agree that for the money the OR is a better purchase. That being said, my sport handles at speed really well, cranks down logging roads with style and I am sure will handle my off roading needs, if not then I can watch my money go away as I mod.
The nonnegotiable for me is the Manual trans.

Go test drive a few times, both models.

I've said it before, I'll say it again - the Sport should come with factory dual exhaust and/or sportier seats.

Any links? Just googled but couldn't find anything with a sport specific showing off road capabilities.

It's a 4x4 truck (if bought as such) with good ground clearance. A truck doesn't need to have crawl control, or have an off road sticker to be off-road capable, or almost nothing would be.

Gotcha. If I’m understanding correctly, if you get an OR MT, that doesn’t have crawl control, but it does have the rear locker?

Also noob question. Is a locker the same as a elsd?
